Receiver won't turn on. All I got is the flashing light.
Receiver was working great for the last 4-5 years. We had a power outage/decrease (lights on but dim). Anyway afterwords all I get is a flashing"Standby". I tried the "press tone button and hit your stand by button and hold for 3 seconds. It didn't work. Any ideas? Appreciate it "TECH MAN"

I am sure you have tried and disconnecting all the speakers and taking the unit to another outlet right? If it works you fried your surge and need to replace it. Otherwise the unit went into that strange power protection mode
the speaker is not broken, its the receiver, cuz i have this model, and now it just flashes a blue light on the power button and it wont turn on. I had the same problem as you before it did wat is doing now. i ran the speakers on my vsx-3900s, and they didnt mess up at all, they only did it on the vsx-816
I have the same problem. my sandby light is on but my receiver will not turn on! I checked my power going into the power supply board that was good. But i do not have power going to the transformer or the receptacle. And both of my fuses r good. check ur fuses and go from there . If u know how to get a power supply. please let me know.
is it pl;uged direct in wall must nbe on a nice hi end break surge proably got zapped transisters in it best to try to replace it u can try to un plug it from that outlet few min then back in anther one
I have vsx-d812 that has an AMP ERR in error menu. the troubleshooting was found to be Q696 and Q697 in the DC prot. area on "C" board, up near front toward diplay in center of c board. You can get access to error codes on VSX pioneer unit by pressing "enter" and "adv. surr." simultaneously for 2 sec. The display should show what error code you are experiencing. I believe there are three diff. error codes. 1) AMP ERR 2) OVERLOAD 3) BOAD ERR (not mistyped) I hope this helps pinpoint error code for ya.
hold down the enter button and the advanced surround button for 5 seconds or so and the amp will restart, the display will come up and hopefully it will be ok. its often caused by using speakers under 8 ohms, or damaged speaker cables etc
I just had the same thing happen with mine. First i blew out the 7 years of collected dust. No change. Checked the fuse. Good. Scrached head. Check.
Out of curiosity i pulled the fuse out, and put a small bolt in its place. Powers on right away now. I dont have to sit and play with it for 10-15 min anymore. So, a new fuse should fix it. I will find out tomorrow.
