My GPS will not boot up past the welcome screen. It will not turn off unless the battery is removed. I had some problems last season with the boot up but they cleared up when I made sure the boat power source was turned off before plugging the unit in. This unit worked perfectly when I shut it down at the end of the 07 boating season. I have a new battery on order and am hoping this will solve the problem.

My GPS will not boot up past the welcome screen. The unit cannot be turned off unless the battery is removed. This unit had some problems with bootup last season but they were resolved by making sure the remote power source was off before plugging GPS in. This unit worked perfectly when put away for storage at the end of the 07 boating season. I realize I should have removed the battery for storage but it was over looked.

276C will not power on passed the welcome screen on dim. If I remove the battery and put it back, then it powers on. Only then can I connect it the the charger (external power supply) or to a USB port on the PC.

We have A Garmin 1300. It works fine for a while then the screen goes blank. We hold down the on button for a LONG while then the screen will come back up and make you go through several screens, but...

Hello,

Be sure to update the firmware by running the Garmin WebUpdater.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

It is not necessary to unplug the vehicle power cable as the unit will shut down automatically if the vehicle power source is not supplying power after the vehicle is turned off. If the vehicle power cable does continue to supply power, then a manual shut down can be done with the power switch on the nuvi but it is still not necessary to disconnect the vehicle power cable.

My garmin 255w nuvi keep turning off and wont turn on

It is a good idea to perform a hard reset on your Garmin Nuvi after updating the software.

The Hard Reset procedure has been known to delete your Favorites, so back them up beforehand.

  1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  2. After the hard reset, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.
Perform the Hard Reset:

*Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit

  1. Power the unit off.
  2. Remove the battery and wait several minutes.
  3. Install the battery.
  4. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.
  5. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?"prompt appears.
  6. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

Garmin 178C Boots up then shuts off

I've had a similar situation with a Magellan, it would power off despite being plugged in.

Its usually a battery issue, perhaps its not getting enough power? You could try to unplug it and do a "hard battery reset" depending on the type of battery. Keep turning it on and let it run out, until it wont even turn on anymore, after that plug it into a charger while off and allow it to charge completely. Turn it on, see if it still shuts off.

Good luck!

Screen goes blank after locating sattilites.

Accordingto Garmin, this problem can be fixed by disabling the WAAS feature in teh set up menu. There is an incompatibility between the old Garmin software and latest WAAS upgrades. Later software from Garmin is supposed to fix this problem.

My streetpilot c330 won"t shut off.

IT'S CALLED A FROZEN SCREEN...

2 OPTIONS

ONE, RESET IT !!! (See resetting instructions below)

TWO, let the battery die out!

Waking up your c330...

If you left your Garmin c330 on running the battery will have 1% life left. If you turn c330 back on again, it will flash screen for 3 seconds then die, even charging it at this point will not wake it back up. TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE... plug in the power home or car into Garmin c330. There is a tab in the front Garmin gray frame of your screen. You must take like your fingernails and under the logo "GARMIN" pull the whole gray plastic frame off. Underneath the plastic frame to the right hand side. There is a "RESET" button. Make sure power is plugged in while hitting reset. Your battery should come back to life. Cheers

Garmin nuvi does turn on when connected to power in car

Hi

I had the same problem. My Nuvi 350 did not power up for a couple of days. I suspected moisture to be the culprit. So I took my wife's hair dryer and blew hot air(in the intermediate setting) into the SD card slot in the GPS for a couple of minutes. Take care not to overheat the GPS or Screen.
Pronto my GPS powered up without any issues.
Hope this helps

Check the pins at the connector on the back of your unit. Make sure one of them is not bent or broken off. One of the pins on mine is missing about 1/16" of the tip. My boat repair shop says it's the power lead, but Garmin wants $200 for a generic repair.
