The printer will not recognize the black cartridge

after installing a new cartridge you need to open the program for your printer tray and reset your cartridges so that the printer and pc reconize the cartridge is full

I would change the cartridge. It sounds like you are using a faulty aftermarket black cartridge.

You can't.The printer needs to recognized both cartridges to print, scan or copy.In your case the color cartridge is defective.You must replace it for using your printer.

Try wiping the copper contacts on the new cartridge with a dustfree cloth dampened with some alcohol. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.

Take the black ink cartridge back to the person who refilled it. The Microchip that's on the cartridge was not reset properly that's why the printer is returning that error.

You can try some steps before you take it to them to verify it.
1: reseat (take out and put back in) the cartridges into place
