My devise is the exact same as your except that it does not ding.
My theory is that the device is the problem and not the cord or the computer. I think this is correct because I have tried it myself on multiple computers.

Even i am facing the same problem... My computer does not seem to recognize my SanDisk 2GB Mp3 player. When
I plug it in, the computer dings, as if it is
recognizing the device, however it does not appear under My Computer or
anywhere else I can find. It was working well yesterday.

I've tried everything everyone has posted also and nothing helps. Not even the sarcastic answer I got back a while ago. I'm not stupid and even calling the company didn't solve the problem. They told me my cable was no good...I guess none of my cables are any good then since we have several of the Sansa Clips and they all came with cables and none of them work. I've decided to just keep the songs on that I have on it and not try to add anything new. At least I got 130 songs on before the stupid thing did this.

my sansa clip keeps connecting, writing and then disconnecting. I cannot load any music onto it because it isn't recognized by media player because it doesn't stay connected long enough. Also cannot remove hardware from my computer for the same reason. I've tried all the above ideas with putting it on hold and holding the middle button in, changing to msc mode, and adding the software and it still doesn't work. Any other ideas before it gets thrown into the garbage? It was working fine for several months until now.

my sansa clip 1 gb worked fine a few days ago but now i plug it in to charge and it will not charge or even act like its recognised and it keeps re-connecting and disconnecting over and over and i've done the mtp porting kit, the firmware, called tech support, and tried the hold trick and none of it worked an the player does not have the usb settings option at all so i can not change the option PLEASE HELP!!!! i also cannot format because that would render my player absolutely useless since i no longer have any of my music on my computer anymore and i have to use another computer to post this and the player works fine on this one but it's not mine so i cannot use it often and i am not allowed to DL anything onto it. the only thing that i have on my computer that i got a few days ago is an nvidia geforce 5500 that once i installed it the player would not work. but that is hardware that will not be removed at this point. please help me it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

I canot see my mp3 (sansa clip 2 GB) under My computer. When I put the mp3 in the usb port I hear a sound and after that Windows Media Player opens. I see the sansa clip but the songs are in grey and I canot do anything except deleting them. When I turn on the Mp3 there are no songs. I canot do any copy (just ghost copies- in grey color)
