Comment by vickisanchez, posted on Mar 19, 2008 IT FINALLY WORKS !!!!

Sandisk Tech support had me do the following:

- Turn it OFF
- Put it in the HOLD position
- HOLD the center button IN while plugging into USB port, continue to hold for 5 to 7 sec even after plugged in.
At this point MY COMPUTER recognized it. And it worked.

He also had me to:

- go to WWW.MICROSOFT.COM
- In the upper right hand search bar, type in MTP PORTING KIT
I did this and downloaded the first one. Now my Sansa Clip work perfect. I wish I would have talked to him last week before I returned the last one, for the same reasons.

If this does not help call the 1-800 # , opt #4, and ask for GUY (yes that is really his name) out of 5 or so calls to Tech Support he is the only one who knew what he was doing, and how to actually HELP.
GOOD LUCK

IT IS VERY EASY TO CLEAR YOUR SANDISK SANSA CLIP mp3 PLAYER.
1,) CONNECT TO USB ON YOUR COMPUTER W/ USB PLUG
2.)WHEN 'AUTOPLAY' ASKS TO OPEN TO VIEW FILES CLICK ON THAT
3.)RIGHT CLICK AND FORMAT THE STUPID THING, USE YOUR INTUITION IT WORKS
4.)GO TO START MENU, THEN COMPUTER THEN OPEN YOUR MUSIC FILES
5.)GO TO START MENU, OPEN COMPUTER AND OPEN YOUR MAIN DRIVE
6.)CLICK ON THE SANSA DISK mp3 PLAYER
7.)DRAG AND DROP ALL OF THE FILES FROM YOUR 'MUSIC' FILES INTO THE SANSA DISK CLIP PLAYER OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE
8.)THIS WORKS, I'VE RETRIED IT, TESTED AND THIS WORKS FINE ON WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM WITH SP-1 NO PROBLEMS
{don't make it harder than it is}

Another possible i found is simpler than all this.
It might not always be applicable.
I messed aroundf with this problem for an hour tonight trying all mentioned and none worked.

Got it working just by this

Open up SANSA MP3 PLAYER
Go to SETTINGS
USB SETTINGS
Make sure you click MTP

It detected it finally in WINDOWS and showed in MY COMPUTER.

I tried before this

a) getting the MTP PORTABLE thing of MICROSOFT.
b) putting in HOLD and switching off.
c) getting a better driver for USB.
d) pulling cable in out and shaking all about in and after bootup.

Hope it might help you out if you have XP.

Good luck with the thing.

- I have further found out the following.

Basically i have XP at HOME and WORK but for some bazarre reason it only accepts MSC at home and does both at work.

Quite simply i go to

USB SETTINGS
Click MSC

Now upload music to MUSIC folder in windows.

At other end (I.E. WORK) if you look in MTP mode in windows you will NOT SEE THE TRACKS you uploaded at home even though they are on MP3 PLAYER.

So at work i have to do

USB SETTINGS
click MSC

Copy the file from \music to desktop.

then do

USB SETTINGS
click MTP

Go into Windows Media 10,attach the new song to a playlist and then SYNC that to the sansa thing in MTP mode.

Effectively using your MP3 PLAYER as a MEMORY STICK to get to work but still being able to play.

That might seem obvious, but just thought i'd tag it on the end.

My devise is the exact same as your except that it does not ding.
My theory is that the device is the problem and not the cord or the computer. I think this is correct because I have tried it myself on multiple computers.

Comment by cindy011, posted on Jan 26, 2009

computer is not charging battery, not reconizing scandisk.

Comment by Guest, posted on Jan 25, 2009

I've tried everything everyone has posted also and nothing helps. Not even the sarcastic answer I got back a while ago. I'm not stupid and even calling the company didn't solve the problem. They told me my cable was no good...I guess none of my cables are any good then since we have several of the Sansa Clips and they all came with cables and none of them work. I've decided to just keep the songs on that I have on it and not try to add anything new. At least I got 130 songs on before the stupid thing did this.

it stopped charging and all of a sudden won't recoginize it on the computer. when i replug, restart the computer it says it is connected and recharges for about 30-45 seconds and then stops charging.

Comment by sandy56, posted on Jan 05, 2009

my sansa clip keeps connecting, writing and then disconnecting. I cannot load any music onto it because it isn't recognized by media player because it doesn't stay connected long enough. Also cannot remove hardware from my computer for the same reason. I've tried all the above ideas with putting it on hold and holding the middle button in, changing to msc mode, and adding the software and it still doesn't work. Any other ideas before it gets thrown into the garbage? It was working fine for several months until now.

my sansa clip 1 gb worked fine a few days ago but now i plug it in to charge and it will not charge or even act like its recognised and it keeps re-connecting and disconnecting over and over and i've done the mtp porting kit, the firmware, called tech support, and tried the hold trick and none of it worked an the player does not have the usb settings option at all so i can not change the option PLEASE HELP!!!! i also cannot format because that would render my player absolutely useless since i no longer have any of my music on my computer anymore and i have to use another computer to post this and the player works fine on this one but it's not mine so i cannot use it often and i am not allowed to DL anything onto it. the only thing that i have on my computer that i got a few days ago is an nvidia geforce 5500 that once i installed it the player would not work. but that is hardware that will not be removed at this point. please help me it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Comment by Guest, posted on Sep 09, 2008

I talked with tech, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the hardware...nothing worked.
