Question about Dryers
Hi there. I have an LG dryer, TDC70040E. Instead of heating the cooling light stays on so only cool air is blown. I talked to the service center and they said that as the cooling light was on it did not necessarily mean that the heater had stopped working, it may just mean the sensors need cleaning. I cleaned them all and the colling light remains on.
I had/have the same problem at the end of the manufacturer's 2-year warranty and had it repaired. Whilst diagnosing the problem the engineer came across a number of symptoms - wouldntt heat up, "ELE" error and beeping, the thermal switch behind the back cover had cut-out - resetting it the dryer only worked for 15mins. it then wouldn't switch off! (kept turning) and the only way to switch if off was to pull the plug at the mains. Had the control board and motor capacitor replaced - it worked for one year and the same problem again (right now). it is one year into extended warranty and beyond economical repair, £250 to replace control board, and I am being offered £165. Comparing the old and new control boards I note that the same power transistor has frazzeled on both boards. I can replace the tarnsistor and other frazzeled components but the thing is covered in resin - i'm peeling off as I write this!. Not buying LG again. But impressive flashing lights when you switch it on though - just telling her to buy a flashy christmas tree instead!
PS this is the short version of events.
