Re: Street Pilot C340
The only way to update the maps is to purchase new maps from Garmin and download them via the computer. The 2008 map updates are currently available, and Garmin has told me new maps will be out in a few months.

Hello I've the user manual to your Gramin Street Pilot C340. I can't send it to you by this window, as it does not allow me to upload any files by it. If you send your email address to me by Fixya comment box, I'll send a copy of it to you by return mail. OK>
Don't believe everything you see on a GPS.
Garmin does not update their maps as they should; I found this even after I purchased their map update. I drove 48 states in a big rig, over many new roads not found or shown on the Garmin maps. My streetpilot usually went into a hiccup mode, recalculating -- recalculating -- recalculating. All the while, it tried to get me to detour on whatever spurious local roads happened to show up along the way.
If you have the most updated maps installed the only other option I can tell you to try is making sure that all your avoidances are selected properly. Usually by default your avoidances are set so they don't recognize things like rural roads, toll roads, dirt/farm roads for fastest directions and speed. Look into this and see if your adviodances are turned on. If so then turn them off and see if your roads are there. If it doesn't work then you will need to connect your garmin to the PC and run an update to see if you have the latest map update.
We followed the advice of another FixYa blogger in pressing the reset button that is under the screen frame. It worked! The Garmin magically came on! You have a great site that we will visit again if we have other techno problems!
I followed the instructions of the Online manual for the Garmin Street Pilot c-340, I removed the faceplate of the Street Pilot and then using my thumb pressed down on the reset button. I then pressed the power on button on the side of the device- the screen lit up, I then plugged one end of the USB cable into my computer and the other end into the device. The information on the screen of the device indicated the Lithium Battery was charging properly.
