Lost all sound on Intel Pentium4 running XP Home

Lost all sound on Intel P4 845GLLY motherboard and last time ithappened problem was solved by downloading and reinstalling driver fromIntel. This time NOTHING is making it work ! A run of Registry Smartreports no problems, have deleted in device manager, have uninstalled,downloaded, reinstalled drivers, have run SFC, have replaced speakers,have run DXDIAG but did not hear any test sounds. Audio is enabled inBIOS and all audi settings have been checked and rechecked for bothvolume level and muting. Have no idea what to do/try next and waswondering if possible (and how) to test that the on board device isitself not somehow damaged...but don't know how or why it should be.Any thoughts or other suggestions would be appreciated.

    I'm doing all this posting on a new machine running Visat and for some strange reason the letter n and the letter o each seem to show up on the post as a couple of asterisks ! e.g. know is posting as know etc

    I hate to use up the last remaining PCI slot but if the on board sound chip is fried then I guess that may well be the only option.Never heard of a sound chip going before and wonder what might cause such.

Intel d865perl sound card drivers

Hi,
left click this link & choose you're operating system for the Intel D865PERL motherboard drivers. (Reinstall the driver software).
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=949&lang=eng
For windows XP/home & pro. Click on this link;
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=949&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21
After reinstalling the software & you're sound does not seem better than the built in sound chip may be going bad.
Other factors can also cause the effects you are having. Run windows system defrag. Also run windows Disk cleanup. These tools are found in windows System tools. Lastly you can buy & add a PCI sound card into an emty PCI slot to bypass the built in sound card. If you choose to do this you will need to enter the bios & disable the built in sound device.

Good Luck!
Mike
