Could be the belt broke or came off. I believe this one has a belt switch, which could also explain the no heat. If this is new, call GE or your local store to have the machine repaired under the manufacturer's 1 year warranty.

If you can hear a rumbling sound from the drum, then I would say that the main drum bearings have failed.
This is a major repair job, and not one I would recommmend you undertake yourself. as it involves a complete strip down of washer, and the cost is cosiderable.
Probably better to purchase a new washer.
Good luck.
If a dryer is not working at all that's not good! But it doesn't mean you need to go appliance shopping just yet. It may be something very simple like a broken door latch, a bad door switch or even a broken door switch actuator, in a kenmore dryer there is a tab thats sticks out of a hole in the wall that allows the dryer to run only if the door is shut, other models may have button that protrudes out of the dryer and when the door is shut, this allows the dryer to run. These switches go out from time to time, also if a dryer is full of lint build-up over time this will cause the dryer high limit or fuse to blow. The fuse is located near where the blower is in most cases. When the air in the dryer gets way too hot the fuse/hi-limit will blow and the house wont burn down.
I pulled the back off and found where the noise was coming from. It was not the motor but I didn't know what the part was. I called an 800 number for G.E. sales and parts and spoke with someone about the dryer model number and he figured out what the washer model number was. I told him what I heard and where I heard it. He said only two parts make a humming sound: the motor and the water valve. I found a local parts dealer and bought a new water valve for $11.93 and now my washer is working again!
