E drive - D drive not reading blank discs

Hi. I've got nero 6 and I know its all working. The problems I'm having are the 2 drives do not recognise blanks discs, except one drive, one kind of disc. I'll try and explain...

I've tried new discs in drives and swaped the discs around (incase theres a bad one) but this is the out come I got...

i've put a new dvd+rw disc in e drive = 0 bytes
dvd+rw in d drive = 0 bytes
----------------------------
a new dvd + r in e drive = 0 bytes
dvd+r in d drive = 0 bytes
----------------------------
a new cd-r in d drive = 702 mb free space
cd-r in e drive = 0 bytes
-------------------------------

I hope this makes sence to someone.

Thank you for any help.

ok..so only reason it's writing as read only, is due to the settings on your hardware..you know about control panel settings?

lost of things could be happening ,depending on optical drive manufacturer, file type, plus or minus dvd/cd blank disk and burning software and how you are burning the media, all can cause malfunctions, but if playing a disc causes blue screen of death, then i would first uninstall display adapter driver on graphics card, and restart, when computer finds new hardware, click cancel,go to dell support and get newest driver, and software,reinstall..some optical drives like minus discs, some like plus discs, depending on the drive,if its a combo drive and will read and write both plus and minus discs, then the problem is how you are burning them,or the laser is dirty or drive is malfunctioning.if you arent allready using nero burning software, then i would reccomend it,i have been doing this a long time, had my days of problems,,not anymore,i dont work for nero nor am i paid by them to say this, but i am a computer repair tech with 25+years experience, save yourself hours of pain and wasted blank discs, and purchase it,user friendly ,easy to use ,and advanced drive speed tools ,allow max preformance on any computer, read instructions ,discs must be burned with correct file type for device that plays them back ,disc at once or track at once settings ,matter, also using the slowest burning speed, creates a higher quality disc, but takes longer, post comments if you have more questions ,aloha from maui todd0708

Wont read or recognise there is acd inserted

When you open my computer do you see the drive in the window? If the drive does not show up in this window you can check two things, check to be sure that the cable connecting the drive to the mother board is good. And the other issue could be that the drive itself has gone bad. If it is unable to read any cd's then you probably need a new drive. Be sure to put in several cd's to be sure it is not the cd disk.

The cd drive aint reading blank disc

You must have the burner program (roxio or nero) identify the CD/DVD RW Drive. If the burner program didn't come with the drive at the time of purchase go to roxio or nero site and look for updates for your particular drive. If you don't have that info...look in divice manager under CD/DVD-Rom Drives and it will tell you.
Failing that...look for updates of "Firmware" at the manufacturer of your drive...
Good luck...hope this helps

Hi, I have an ASUS W1000 laptop and I am having problems with the CD/DVD drive. The computer can still read the hardware as I have uninstalled it and the restart automatically reinstalled the drive....

my Solution is to purchase an external dvd writer and use that as the internal onse dont last long as the heat from the laptop can cause problems to the connectors to the dvd burners.

hope this will help.
