There is a leak at the filter and can not figure out how to stop it.
Assuming this is a side by side, with the water filter located at the top back of fresh food side, assuming filter is unclogged, i.e., new, check the housing that the filter slips into, that which you actually grasp and turn to remove the filter. If there are any cracks in this filter housing, you will need to replace it. If the cover is sound, the problem will lie within the housing assembly, that which you screw the filter cover into. This housing is held on with 2 or 3 screws. IN order to remove the water lines, you must squeeze the white collar towards the housing, away from the water line, while at the same time gently tugging the water line. If you squeeze the collar correctly, the line should come right out. Make sure to connect ONE line at a time. Do not disconnect both and reattach at the same time. If the lines are reversed, you will damage the filter and possibly water system itself. attach water filter and check again. if filter cover is ok, and this does not fix your problem, without personal inspection, i cant help you further. Hello Marie Baxter: If you suspect the water dispenser is leaking, make sure it is the hoses coming from the filter and not the actual filter.
Sometimes the clamps on the hoses for fridge water filters can come loose or the hose itself could crack; in which case the hose would need replacing (or tightening the clamp), and not the filter.
If you clearly find the filter is leaking, the best thing to do is make sure it is installed properly.
If it is securely in place, then you may just have a defective filter and changing it will solve the leaking.
You will need to remove the filter, which is typically located in the back of the refrigerator and inspect it to see what condition it is in.
•For instance, if it is black or looks dirty, you probably will want to replace it.
•Moreover, when there is a leak or a clog, you will notice a dramatic decrease in the output of the water dispenser tab, which is another sign there may be a leak in the water filter. If you know the water filter in your refrigerator is leaking, then you can take the water filter out and see if it has anything loose on it, but typically if it is leaking, it probably is best to replace the water filters for refrigerators.
•This is especially true if you use the filtered water from the refrigerator as your main home water filter systems.
•Moreover, if it has been awhile since you changed the filter; it can become clogged over time, which can cause it to leak.
When you are faced with having a leaking filter refrigerator water unit, it helps to think through the pros and cons of fixing the leak vs. replacing the refrigerator water filter.
