You won't be able to get into the internet until you configure your router - hence the security screen. Go to the Linksys book (or "quick start) that came with it should have given you the router's address and password (for instance http://43.221.16.55.and linksys. It'll also give you password instructions for when the security screen comes up. ) Once you're into your router's configuration page. You should be able to follow the steps and then you'll be home free. Good Luck or get back to me.

I am not sure where I can find the four to eight digit pin for my linksys model router, as I have tried everything listed under the router itself.

For that press RESET button of your router for 10 seconds then it will automatic restart and reset. then connect router to computer lan port with lan cable. then you can access it with default ip addresshttp;//192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.2 Type user as 'admin" and password as "admin" or "1234" or "password" or blank then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on wireless->security then note down the password. It's your password to connect wireless.
Let me know if you need further assistance. thanks for using fixYa.

If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or "1234" blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
If you are not able to access router then RESET it .You can RESET it with reset button it is in back side of router press it for 10 seconds then all settings goes to defaults then you can access it with above link.

Already tried it..

I can't tell if you tried turning off wireless, HARD WIRING your lap top to YOUR linksys. Did you.

Another way to see if you've done it right, it to turn off your Brother's linksys to see if you can still get onto the internet.

Also are there OTHER wireless routers in the neighborhood? It doesn't sound like you8're communicating with YOU router.

Network problem

Be sure that you only enter the password admin - in small letters. The user name shuld be left blank (empty space).

This should work UNLESS you (or someonhe else) previously changed the password. Is this a brand new unit? If someone changed the password, you'll have to use the new password.

What Version is the the router? Did you buy it from a store?

Setting up Wireless Security ? BEFW11S4

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. Please follow these instructions to secure your wireless network. Accessing the Router 1. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Explorer (Located on the Start Menu in Windows XP) 2. When "Internet Explorer" opens type http://192.168.1.1into the "Address" bar and click on Go 3. The "Enter Network Password" window will appear. 4. Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK Setup Page Security Options When you arrive at the Setup page, you'll see the bulk of your wireless security features. There are three things you're going to want to set on this page: 1. SSID a) Delete linksys from the "SSID" field b) Input your own unique SSID. We general recommend something easy to remember, but secure enough to where people would not be able to guess it easily. Sometimes your best bet is to use your last name and add some numbers. a) Click Apply then Continue 1. SSID Broadcast (Firmware 1.42.7 and above only) a) Click No on the Allow "Broadcast" SSID to associate? b) Click Apply then Continue 2. WEP a) Click Mandatory for the "WEP" Option b) Click the WEP Key Settings button c) When the "Wep Key Settings" Window appears, change the option from 64 to 128* NOTE: 128 bit WEP may not work on non-Linksys products due to its lack of an IEEE standard d) Enter a passphrase** that is different from the SSID. Try to make it alphanumeric; instead of password, use password5532. Once the key has been Generated copy the key into a notepad document and copy that file onto a floppy. **NOTE: The passphrase will not work with non-Linksys products, so you will need to use the passphrase that you copied onto floppy. e) Click Apply then Continue f) Close the window g) Click Apply then Continue on the setup page. Setting up Station MAC Filter The Station MAC Filter option is a very good security feature that has been added to Firmware 1.42.7 and above. This option denies all wireless clients except those listed. To implement this feature please follow these instructions: 1. From the "Setup" page, click Advanced 2. When the "Filters" page opens, click on the Wireless tab 3. Make sure all wireless computers are setup to the router, and are currently able to access the internet. Once this is done, click on the Active MAC Table button. 4. Move the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window and click on Edit MAC Filter Settings on the main window. 5. When the "Wireless Group MAC Table" opens, go to the task bar and click on the Wireless Active MAC Table so that window appears. 6. With the two windows side by side enter the MAC Addresses from the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window into the Wireless Group MAC Table. - NOTE: When you enter the MAC Addresses do not include the dashes, and do not click "Filter" 7. Click Apply then Continue in the "Wireless Group MAC Table" window. 8. Close the "Wireless Group MAC Table" window and the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window 9. On the Main window Enable the Station MAC Filter setting.

Charter High-Speed Cable and the BEFW11S4 Version 4

To resolve this problem, you will need to upgrade your router's firmware. Click ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/befw11s4_v4_v1.50.14_code.bin and download the file to your Desktop or My Documents folder (the link is to v1.50.14 firmware code). Once the BIN file has been downloaded, follow these instructions to upgrade the router's firmware: NOTE: Before upgrading your router's firmware, please make sure that the procedure is being performed by a computer that is connected directly to the Router with an Ethernet cable and not a wirelessly connected computer. Accessing the Router's Setup Page 1. Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. 2. When the browser window opens, go to the Address bar and type in the router's IP Address and click on the Go button (192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of Linksys Routers). 3. A window will appear prompting for a ?User Name? and a ?Password?. Leave the ?User Name? field blank, and type in the router's password and click on the OK button to login (admin is the default password). 4. The router's web-based ?Setup? utility should then load. Upgrading the Router From the router?s ?Setup? page, locate the Linksys logo in the upper left-hand corner of the page. Follow the instructions below depending on which logo matches your specific screen: If the logo matches the image above ("Linksys - A Division of Cisco Systems, Inc."), follow these steps. If not, skip to the next logo version. 1. Click on the Administration tab. 2. When the ?Administration? page loads, click on the Firmware Upgrade sub-tab. 3. When the ?Upgrade Firmware? page loads, click on the Browse button, and browse to the location where the firmware file was downloaded (and possibly extracted) to. 4. After browsing to the correct location, select the firmware file and click on the OK button. 5. Click on the Upgrade button to upgrade the router's firmware. If the logo matches the image above ("Linksys"), follow these steps: 1. Click on the Help tab. 2. When the "Help" page loads, click on the Upgrade Firmware link. 3. When the ?Upgrade Firmware? page loads, click on the Browse button, and browse to the location where the firmware file was downloaded (and possibly extracted) to. 4.
