Samsung 54" Rear Projection Convergence Problem model PCN5425r

I have a Samsung 54" Rear Projection, model PCN5425R. I have read every thread on the internet regarding convergence issues and I need more help. I am an electrical engineer and have the capabilites to repair the problem, I just need the k**wledge.

Here's the problem:

Colors are all misaligned. Looks like a 3-D movie without the 3-D glasses.
The Best Picture/auto alignment function is completely **n functional. I get a "** Signal" error. I also can **t manually align the crosshairs. ** movement occurs when using the controls.

I have replaced the convergence board on the main PCB. There is ** original board available so I bought the replacement board from www . partstore . com. They sent me the following board:

Samsung BP95-00415B Board, Convergence Module - $66

The board swapped out easily but this did **t fix the problem. I don't want to say that the problem got worse, just that the misalignment looks different than before. I would image that there is a reference value on the board and that is why each board looks different. I still have the original board.

I have read about fluid leaks but I don't seem to have that problem either. I did have that problem about 2 years ago and had that repaired under warranty. They replaced a bunch of components at the time but I have ** idea which ones.

I do **t have the service manual, but would love to k**w where to get one.

I've also read that the color ICs may need to be replaced, however, I assumed these were on the convergence board. For $66 I replaced the board rather than the individual ICs. Are these ICs located somewhere else? If so, where and what is the process for replacing them? I'd also like to get my hands on the service manual. Does anyone have it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?

I have the same problem. I can adjust the red and green. The Green is good. But the Red Is showing red lines some times. I have read alot about this tv and they say that it just needs to be manually focused. Then perform the perfect focus and all should be good. My concern is my red is so out of convergence I'm having problems manually aligning it. I have been told not to use it much until I "Tune" it or it will fry the ics on the new bourd I just installed. Before I replaced it I couldn't even manually adjust the convergence now it all moves just need help setting it. Would putting it in service mode help? If so how do you and how would it help?

I too have a PCN5425r with the same symptoms Ive replaced the STK's which resolved the problem about a year ago I had the same issue, and that resolved the problem before. Now Ive replaced them again and it didnt resolve the problem. I was wondering if you could tell me anything else about the convergence circuitry i.e where or what # is the main convergence amp board and or common failures for components ?

    Thanks for the insight

    Chris

Did you replace the Main Convergence Amp board or the Sub Board? You have to trouble shoot them together as one as the sub boards feed proper supplies to the Convergence amplifier board. the service manual will have the flow charts to help pin point abnormal convergence. Also the replacement board should be identical to your replacement board. If that didnt correct the problem chances are thats not the problem as you should be able to adjust the convergence if the voltages are within parameters. Let me know if you need additional help.

You probably also have a bad digital convergence box. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4273935-replace_digital_convergence_box which explains how to fix the problem and where to get the parts. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

Horizontal lines can be cause by many things. One of which is the convergence module. $130.00 is a little high for something that can be caused by other things as well.

Your convergence ic’s have failed, this is a common problem with most all projection tv’s, the repair is involved. I suggest in your case calling a local repair shop.

Sounds like the digital convergence controls is possibly the item giving you the problem, if you have already changed the convergence board. You can get a used digital convergence board at the following link, just leave them a email and state your model number and what your needing.

You will need to locate the convergence amp IC's, the STK392-040, and replace both of them. The originals IC's can be ordered here http://www.mcminone.com/search.asp?keyword=STK392-040&btnSubmit.x=4&btnSubmit.y=6 Good Luck

An easy replacement on the Samsubgs is to replace the convergence board. If you are doing this yourself it is just a plug in board. Here is a link for the part number and how to purchase it. http://www.partstore.com/Part/Samsung/Samsung/PCN5425/Samsung/Samsung/BP9400383A/New.aspx
