ok go to your display properties and click on the settings tab and where the display drop-down menu is it will tell you what video card you are using (i believe it should be mobility radeon x300) if that is the case go to the website i previously posted and it will gove you step by step instructions on how to update your driver

  • btfire911 May 11, 2010

have you updated your drivers? and by update, i mean update from manufacturer, not from dell support. what graphics card are you using? if you have ATI card here is a website to get you started on updating drivers. Its a long process because dell does not allow ATI to offer updates.http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/

Heres a common issue in the field. Of course you must always make sure you have the latest DELL BIOS version.
There is a device that controls the screen called an invertor. This sits in ths screen housing usually toward the bottom. Sometimes people close the lid and forget about the inkpen they were using. The fix in my six years in the field has always been replaceing the LCD.

HI,
Do a power drain, this may cause by an electrical charge in the motherboard itself,Im Not really sure how it affects the display of the computer but this method usually fix such problem like that, First, removed the battery then unplugged the AC adapter the press and hold the power button or the ON/OFF button for at least 30 seconds then connect the power supply back to your computer then turn it back on, if nothing happens, there is a possibility that the problem is with the LCD or monitor itself, maybe it will need a replacement...

Hope this will help...Your response is very much appreciated...

Is there a print screen key on my compaq laptop?

Yor notebook has Print Screen key. I would like to share that, to copy screen using you may need to follow the below steps:

1. Press Prt Sc key in combination with Fn key(Fn + Prt Sc).
2. Open the Paint program. On the edit tab, select paste.

For your convenience I am providing the hints to make the image smaller, press control w, and change the top two resize boxes to 80% in both the horizontal and the vertical box. Hit enter. This will resize the image to a size that is convenient to use for email attachments or as inserts in document projects.

I am sure that the above information helps. If you need any further assistance or clarifications, please feel free to reply to this mail. We would be delighted to assist you. I would like to share that, to copy screen using you may need to follow the below steps:

Attach an external monitor to your PC. If the problem continues there, it's your graphics card.
If the problem disappears, you have stuck/dead pixels.
You could try a very gentle rubbing of the pixel(s).

Bottom 2/3 of screen has bars & bands

It sounds like the "data" connection between the motherboard and the LCD screen is "flaky". Open the screen a little more, or a little less, and see if the image corrects, as the screen rotates on its hinges.
But, this "flexing" is just a bypass, not a solution to the problem.

However, if it's less than one year old, it's still protected by the manufacturer's warranty.

The retail store that sold the computer to you may offer a "no-questions-asked" replacement of a "dud" computer. So, backup your personal files (to an external disk-drive or to a USB memory-stick) and then take your computer back, demonstrate the problem, and be insistent.

Some computer-stores (especially the smaller ones) will offer to "rent" a laptop computer to you -- they do it all the time for professional conferences -- for a short-term, while your computer is "away", visiting HP, and getting repaired.

Exercise your warranty, and be insistent in your demands.

Have a gray transparent band on right side of screen

do you ever run dual displays using a monitor?if so,is the gray band on that screen too?if you grab the screen at the top and flex it left or right does the image change,if it does, check your display connection to the graphics card on the motherboard, and inspect the ribbon for signs of damage,if the same image is on a monitor in dual display,it may be a software problem uninstall your display adapter and all monitors in device manager,,and any software related to it ,restart and when it automatically finds new hardware, cancel it,go to the ibm support site get the latest bios update flash it exactly as the instructions state,,download fresh graphics driver and reinstall, hope this helps aloha from maui todd0708

R51 thinkpad display problem

I think the LCD screen is not working properly. The only solution is to replace it.
You can find replacement LCD screens for IBM R51 here:

Screen Problem

Unfortunately the fix is a new lcd. The tab welds at the top of the lcd are not allowing that portion to work correctly. As these tabs are fused to the lcd you will need to replace the lcd. My Toshiba M105 is almost the same.(I Have 4" Gone) on the right side. so to use it I clicked and dragged my system tray from the bottom to the side. And shrunk my web pages to utilize tthe good portion.

I suppose I should replace it but being only 18months old the LCD's run about 160.00 USD.(sometimes I just hook up an external monitor.
