Most printers require that the entire print alignment be done before it lets you pass this step. to me, it seems like a huge waste of ink! are you stopping the alignment before it's done? is there enough paper in the printer to complete the task? there are ways to avoid this step, you'll have to check your manual's troubleshooting section to find out how.
