Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Elna I have an Elna, "Jubye" (my be Tuby-e). It was purchased in 1998. I have had it fixed twice and my local machine repair person says he has fixed it, however it is continuing to have the same problem. When I sew, the bobbin's thread wraps around the inner bobbin compartment, then causes the tension on the top thread to become taut and break. I then have a huge glob of thread on the underside of my garment and I have to sever that to release the garment, then cut the 20+ thread cluster in the bobbin compartment. I will try to sew again and then it will happen after about 2 inches of sewing. I have adjusted the thread tension, tried different fabrics and had my machine maintenanced (oiled/cleaned) recently. Do you have any suggestions? I am ready to throw the machine out the window, into the street and run over it with someone else's car. Thank you! Amy Urban in Austin TX

Thank you. The machine has been un unused for most of that time (it was sitting in my Mom's closet). If you can't think of anything else causing the problem, can you send this to some of your colleagues for troubleshooting?

    Thank you!

the parts may have surely worn out..

my advise for you would be try out another bobbin...

may be some metal inside should have been bent blocking the way of the thread

Amy,
did you solve the problem with your Jubilee?
I would suggest that the problem may be not holding the two threads at the back of the needle plate with starting each new seam. Elnas really need you to hold the threads, don't let the tail get caught and pulled back into the bobbin holder area. Once you have one jam, you'll have minute threads you maybe can't see caught under the ring guard (black bit) and the jamming will keep happening. Also, make sure you only use Elna bobbins always with holes on the top.

If you've still got the Jubilee and are having issues with it, feel free to add more info, the other contributors comments about the bobbin being faulty are valid but I dont think your machine is worn out, just jamming. You can remove the bobbin holder yourself and clean underneath it and once you've done it once, and know how to line it and the ring guard back up, its pretty easy and will ensure that the bobbin area stays clean.

Can you supply a zig-zag needle plate for Elna computer sewing machine please?

This site doesn't sell parts - it just helps with information.

Firstly, you need to post what model Elna as Tavarao Switzerland made several compuerised models, the 5000,7000, 9000, and the current Elna range are mostly computerised models now.

To find the part you need, identify your model number by looking on the plate near the power inlet on the side of the machine.

You could call a local Elna dealership, search Yellow Pages or online. Or the Elna head office in your country is often a great place to start. go to www.elna.com and then enter your country, then go to that website. Then find the Contact Us page to see their phone number and or email address. Often best to go to the source first off rather than be told that parts arent available when they may well still be able to be purchased.

Hi, I have an Elna Supermatic model 722010 and the upper tension spring has broken! I am in South Africa and need a solution to fix it. Is there any way I can make this thin wire apparatus? Thanks...

Hi Fiona,
Have you tried Elna in RSA - always worth asking the central head office for a brand first, they may be able to supply the part or direct you to a local Elna dealer who can supply and fit it.

If that isn't an option then you could try this website to source the part www.whitesewingcenter.com? He is the old Swiss Elna specialist in USA and has a wide range of spares in stock. However, you'll need technical knowledge to fit it.

The other option is to join the Yahoo group called "Elna Heirlooms" and then ask the members there for assistance. They are usually pretty helpful to genuine Elna owners of these old Swiss machines.

However, I'd try to find an Elna dealer firstly, I recently purchased the screws for the bobbin case for the same model as you from a service person in NZ, he knew exactly what I wanted and was able to supply them. I found him on Trademe, their Ebay equivalent. The old Sewing Machine Guys are priceless.

Need parts for Elna SU Air Electric sewing machine

My Elna repair man is also the individual I purchased my Elna from in December 1980. His name is Boyd Albright, located in Ottawa, Kansas. I have never had the issues you describe, but Boyd has always serviced my machine and as far as I'm concerend, is the best. When I was told by another sewing machine shop in Mississipi that my machine could not be fixed, Boyd did and for less than $40.00! Contact info: 1231 S Willow St
Ottawa, KS 66067-3439

He works out of his home as he is semi-retired.

Elna Carina service

I just had the same question for servicing of my Elna Carina. I contacted customer support for Elna and received the following e-mail: "Elna machines can be serviced by most authorized Elna dealers. If you need to locate an authorized Elna dealer in your area, please visit our official website at: www.elnausa.com and click on “Dealer Locator” on the top right hand side of the page."
