Bosch wff 2000 washing machine - won't spin/drain

My washing machine doesn't seem to want to enter the final spin cycle. It passes through that stage but just doesn't spin. It means that at the end of the cycle it is still full of water and I can't open the door to get my clothes out?!? After the end of the cycle the pre-wash light continually flashes? Is there anything I can do or am I going to have to call someone out?

Thanks aj

On my Bosch washing machine the spin doesn't work...what could be the problem?

  • lshowell01 Sep 30, 2008

My washing machine had recently stopped running the spin cycle and an Er:04 error warning on the display. The door would remain locked with the drenched clothes.

I had found that if I turned the knob to the OFF and then turn the knob to cycle Start it then Pause it after a few seconds, the door would unlock.

I had mention my problem with the washer to a friend who had offered to take a look for me. They had reached behind the machine pulled the drain out in front over a bucket started the Spin Cycle to see if there would be drainage. No drainage.

Now in front of the washer at the bottom right is a drain to release the water from the tub (using a Wet Vac to prevent flooding the floor). Then the Wet Vac was used to thoroughly clean out the drain.

The problem was some fuzz was clogging the drain preventing it from draining the water.

I have a similar problem. Water is draining ok and coming into & out of the machine ok, but the machine is not spinning or rinsing at all. The drum doesn't move around when on the wash cycle either, but does freely move if I move it myself when empty, so its not jammed as such. The motor makes a sound as though its trying to work, but then cuts out, so can only assume the pump is the problem. Does this sound right? I'm being charged £45 callout plus parts plus VAT, so am trying to find out whether this is likely to be worth fixing or should I just buy a new machine? (I'd rather not, but the machine is about 10yrs old & been used almost every day of its life...)

I had a similar problem a few years ago, sometimes it would pump out sometimes it just stopped and would not spin. Turned out the pump was broken so I replaced that and everything has been fine since. The guy in the spares shop told me it was not uncommon and showed me how the impeller could stick to the casing magnets. The pump cost about £40

Hi our Bosch exxcel washing machine has stopped spinning and doesn't reach the end of its cycle most of the time. If it does the washing is still soaking and needs a new rinse and spin cycle after....

Hi gillsteer,

I believe your drain pump filter is just clogged. The drain pump is trying to pump the water out before the Spin cycle, but can't. Usually this is caused by a foreign object that is obstructing the impeller. See my tip on how to access, drain & clean the Drain Pump Filter:

After this, the Spin cycle will run, after the drainage procedure. If it does not, then you may need to replace the Drain Motor. Which is a easy task.

Kind Regards :-)

Bosch wff 1401 not emptying water therfor not able to spin the pump goes round but water does not empty if i drain the water the machine will spin

If you have not already done so, then check and clean filter located at bottom front right of washer behind drop down cover.
If it still does not empty, then it is either blocked between the pump and tge waste outlet, or the pump itself could be faulty.

There is no draining & this is why your spin does not work. There is only one belt. First siphon out the water from the machine via your front door. Clean out your outlet filter, check the tube from the tub to the filter. Luckily there shouldn't be a block in your outlet pump
