Nothing works in "my Contol Panel"

I just went thorugh this a month ago on my personal laptop and a customers all within a week. If you try to boot into safe mode does it hang or not want to go into safe mode? It may also seem to be letting you have less and less control or won't load certain programs. Then you have a virus. I never could identify it as I had so little control so I ended up doing a system restore. If that sounds familiar the first thing you should do is save or back up your important files or documents. If this follows the same path then you won't be able to do anything within a short while.

If it isn't a virus in your case then you should be able to fix this by booting off of your windows cd and doing a system repair. That will replace any corrupt files such as the control panel cpl files that create the control programs.

A security icon that wont let me do any thing but

Hi, Michelle.
Need a little more info...was this a "free" anti-virus program offering to scan pc/laptop free? for viruses? You didn't give any personal info out to it, did you?
Can you get to "safe mode"? If so, in safe mode go to control panel; add/remove programs;uninstall this program...if it won't let you, try doing a restore to a previous date prior to when you started getting this.
There is a "anti-virus" program that acts like a virus to get you to buy their removal tool.

Resetting Internet Explorer.

When you reset Internet Explorer settings, all add-ons and customizations are deleted, and you basically start with a fresh version of Internet Explorer. This article helps you reset Internet Explorer.

To have us reset Internet Explorer for you, go to the “Fix it for me” section. If you would rather reset Internet Explorer yourself, see how to do it in the "Show me how to do it" section or go to the “Let me do it myself” section.

If the problem is caused by damaged or incompatible Internet Explorer settings or add-ons, you can usually resolve the problem by resetting Internet Explorer settings.

To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
  2. If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cplIf you use Windows Vista, click Start
Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cplThe Internet Options dialog box appears.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
  5. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
  6. Start Internet Explorer again.
For detailed information about the changes that the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature makes on your computer, go to the "How the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature works" section.

My laptop model # M105 S1021 says my windows may not be genuine. I had a virus attack me and need to restore to factory setting. canyou help?

Ok, if you have the CD that came with windows, boot from it, select your keyboard settings, then click Repair my Computer. Under there, there should be a system restore option.
If not, then shutdown, and reboot. Then when you log in and get the message asking you to reactivate windows, press Windows Key-U.
In vista, this will open Ease of Access. Then click on the Address bar, go to c:\windows\system32
Double Click "Explorer.exe"
and then with windows running, go to control panel, and system restore from there.

If you are running XP, follow up to the Windows Key-U part, then click on Narrator, And click on Help, and About. In the About menu, a website is listed. Click on it and Internet Explorer. The also, navigate to c:\windows\system32, and run Explorer. Then do the same. Go to the control panel, and navigate to System Restore.

Hope this helps.

Error problem

Hi,

The issue you have posted regarding that you are unable to open and use the I internet explorer showing error message “ iexplorer.exe ” can not open and needs to close could be due to number of reasons, The steps mentioned below generally fixes these kind of issues I would appreciate if you could try them to get iexplorer.exe issue fixed.

FIX I.

  1. Click On Start, point to Internet Explorer and then right click on the Internet option and left click on properties.
  2. Click on the Delete tab under the (temporary internet files)
  3. Click on delete temp internet files after selecting delete all.
Fix II.
  1. Click on start, point to control panel and click on it.
  2. On the Control Panel window, locate the Add/Remove software icon and click on it
  3. Locate the option Add/Remove Windows Components on the left side of the window and click on it.
  4. Locate the Internet Explorer option form the list and remove the Check Mark in the box by clicking on it, then click NEXT at the bottom. (This will Uninstall the Internet Explorer)
  5. Click on finish.
After you perform the above mentioned steps, restart the computer.
After the computer is restarted and when it gets back to the desktop screen perform the following steps.

  1. Click on start, point to control panel and click on it.
  2. On the Control Panel window, locate the Add/Remove software icon and click on it
  3. Locate the option Add/Remove Windows Components on the left side of the window and click on it.
  4. Locate the Internet Explorer option form the list and then Check Mark box by clicking on it, and then click NEXT at the bottom. (This will reinstall The Internet Explorer)
  5. Click on finish.
Restart the computer and check if you are able to open the Internet Explorer works.

Fix III
This issue can also occur if you have installed any third-party internet tool bar for example, Google, Yahoo, or Rediff etc so you can uninstall the tool bar form the Add/Remove programs, however you will not have to go into the Add/Remove windows components option, the tool bar software will be displayed on the screen which comes up once you click on the Add/Remove icon in the control panel. All you need to do is to select the toolbar and click on remove in order to uninstall it.
Fix IV
  1. Click Start and select Run.
    The Run window appears.
  2. In the Run window, type msconfig and click OK.
The system configuration utility Window appears.
  3. Click on the option Startup at the top right hand corner.
  4. Click on the option disable all at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click on apply.
  6. The system will request to restart, click on restart and let the system restart by itself.
  7. Once the system restarts it will prompt you a screen after it logs in, stating that the startup has been modified and it asks you weather to show that screen again, so select do not sow the screen when logged in next time and close the window.
Should you require any further assistance regarding this issue or any other computer related issue in future please feel free to contact get back to us, we will be more than glad to assist you.
