We have had a DS Lite for quite a while with no problems. Recently I picked it up and with a game in it had a white screen. Once I took the game out it rebooted came up find but wanted the system settings. Once you start the system settings I noticed when I got the Date setup it wouldn't hold the real date only put 00/00/2000. I worked fine with nickname and color. Once you finish the system settings it asks to restart. Once you restart it starts all over again with the system settings over and over and over……Any suggestions or known fix?

The DS lite console does not have a way of quitting a game and going back to the main DS menu. The only way to quit a game completely would be to save your game, and press the power button on the side of the console to turn it off, and then back on.
Take note that you cannot change game cards while the system is on, or it may cause damage to the game and/or your system.
It should be noted that the DS Lite is only able to connect to a wireless network that is encrypted with a WEP password. It cannot connect to a network encrypted with a WPA or WPA2 password. Unfortunately (for the DS Lite), a lot of wireless networks are making WPA the standard, because it is more secure. However, you can change the settings of your wireless network (typically) so that it is encrypted with a WEP password. Just be aware that this makes your network less secure.
There are certain types of WiFi that can't be picked up by the DS Lite which prompts you error 51099. For example, you can't use a security protected WEP WiFi. I encountered this problem with my DS also and if you know how to remove the password on your WiFi router, that should solve the problem, however it leaves your network unsecured so I suggest doing that only to receive the event gift.
Nintendo also has a detailed troubleshoot guide for that error which I've provided a link below.
Cheers and good luck with getting Victini!
The DS does not support the WPA encryption scheme; which is the only secure encryption scheme available. You could temporarily degrade the security in the router's admin page to WEP, though I would recommend you use public wifi when you have to, and keep yours secure.
there may be some kind of damage in the ds as i had the same problem it may have been shaken around or dropped or even faulty the best thing to do is send it back if you dont have the warranty then go to a gaming store most have a collection day where someone comes to pick up broken ds and takes them its free except tfor the repair. Its best if you dont fiddle around with it a it will become more damaged
