Do you have your service packs installed??
have you run deep scans with updated antimalware programs??
with that age, and if the problem continues, after having all your sp's installed and after making sure you have no virus, I would get the manufacturer to honor the warranty.
it's not clear from your post if the problem continues or if you resolved it taking the battery out.
Are you running vista? this is an ongoing issue with that operating system. my best advise would be to totally disable hibernate and sleep on your computer by changing the power settings.

The laptop is running Windows 7. Disabling hibernate may be a safer alternative though.

i am not sure on SP's and no virus scans have been done yet. Yes, the battery removal did resolve the problem.
