Hi, HP pavillion dv7 laptop. Went into hibernate mode but will not wake. Pressing power button does nothing. Hold power button for 5 to 10 sec does nothing. Plugging in power cord is not registered by laptop. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing. Screen is blank the whole time. Lights are on but nothing is working. Finally decided to remove battery. Powered up fine, recognized it was not properly shut down. But booted ok. Battery was 3/4 full. Laptop is 2.5 months old. Any ideas ???

    hi romeoratilla,
The laptop is running Windows 7. Disabling hibernate may be a safer alternative though.

    Thanks kornho,
i am not sure on SP's and no virus scans have been done yet. Yes, the battery removal did resolve the problem.

Do you have your service packs installed??

have you run deep scans with updated antimalware programs??

with that age, and if the problem continues, after having all your sp's installed and after making sure you have no virus, I would get the manufacturer to honor the warranty.

it's not clear from your post if the problem continues or if you resolved it taking the battery out.

Are you running vista? this is an ongoing issue with that operating system. my best advise would be to totally disable hibernate and sleep on your computer by changing the power settings.

  1. right click on your desktop
  2. click personalize
  3. go to screen saver
  4. on the lower part, you should have change power settings there
  5. play around with it and disable hibernate and sleep
hope it helps.

i'm not a fan of hibernate and sleep. when I'm not using my computer I always turn it off. IMHO, it's more healthy to the computer that way.

Ihave hp pavillion dv7 1245dx when you power up it acts like its locked in hibernation everything is on and the cap lights blink but the screen stays dark ...

Hi,

I suggest try to do a Hard Reset on your machine by removing the Battery, unplugging the Power Cord and after that Press and Hold the Power button for about one minute without any supply on the machine. After that put it all back in and see if still doing the same problem, If its still doing the same problem count the blinking lights on your caps lock it indicates what could be the hardware that's faulty on your machine then call the manufacturer's tech support and tell them that it gives you that kind of problem.

My laptop went to hibernate and I cannot wake it from that mode. I only have a blank screen.

you have to press the power button once to get it out of hibernation. If nothing else works you can do one of two things:

1] Press and HOLD the power button for about 5 seconds or until you hear the laptop turn off. Then turn it back on again by pressing the power button momentarily.

2] You can DISABLE hibernation. To do this - follow these steps,

  • right-click the desktop and click on and click on "properties".
  • click the screen saver tab.
  • click the power settings button
  • in the power options properties dialog box click the hibernate tab.
  • uncheck the enable hibernation check box.
  • click OK then click OK again
Hope that helps

Not wake from sleep or hibenate

Usually, to wake from sleep pr hibernate, you just need to press the "Power" button of your laptop. It will not turn it off or restart the laptop if it is in the "sleep" or hibernate mode. Pressing any key usually wake it up. The default way is to press the power button as if turning it ON for the first time.

HP Pavillion won't bring monitor back from sleep mode

hi...if u can read " no input signal" from ur screen, this means that ur monitor is ok..
Look if u have power buttons on ur keyboard.. try to wake it from there.. some pc may have shortcut keys to bring back the pc... look @ ur pc docs on the internet for more info...
However if it's a hardware issue, it may be that ur RAM memory needs to be cleaned

Can't wake up....gone into sleep mode...how do you wake it up

press and hold the power button down for about 5 secs. The computer will shut down. Restart it and right click on the desktop, go to properties then look for screensaver tab , then choose power options, click on hibernation tab at the top and uncheck enable hibernation. Or choose stanby options and choose a longer time before the computer goes to sleep.

How to turn on toshiba satellite M300 laptop from hibernating mode

hi shirleygty, is that automatic hibernation (the computer hibernates by itself) or manual hibernation (by pressing the hibernate button)? If either applies to your case you might need to update the BIOS information for your computer to fix the power management issues on it. You can get it here. Just run the file, click install & choose Install From Windows. Make sure you don't have any BIOS password or any external devices connected to the computer. When the update completed successfully, your computer will automatically restart, then try hibernating this time (manual or automatic). I do recommend setting the hibernation to 1min. at the control panel > power options > change when to turn off the display. When it hibernates, pressing any keys or the power button should wake up the computer.

Hope this helps.
