Canon brand already in use CLI-8M Canon 8, M, Magenta purchased at OfficeDepot, still my PIXMA states "..following ink tank cannot be recognized.." with an arrow pointing to that cartridge. Earlier attempts to print were successful when I opened the lid and remove/replaced cartridge but that step no longer any good.

Alas, looks like another sixteen dollars or so for another 8M cartridge ! Ugh.

Success after following Leo2 advice by replacing cartridge. Former cartridge though containing some ink had apparently 'gone bad' due to age. Cleaning printer parts another good idea.

Same problem and the machine is only 3 months old! The alarm light comes on and the screen says cannot recognize then it switches and states that more than one cartridge of the same color is installed. SO, nothing will copy since this happened. I would have thought that this machine would have lasted more than 3 months. It wasn't cheap.

Have contacted Canon before and they sent me a replacement cartridge. That worked for that cartridge but now takes turns on ponting to one cartridge (now 8BK) and alerts that it does not recognize cartridge. Have already tried to clean printer. Very expensive printer to have this problem!

My printer sends an error message u150 indicating the black ink cartridge cannot be recognized. I have used the same cartridge for some time and it still has ink in it.

Same problem, found two solutions, one temporary and one permanent.

Temporary - Open the top case, the ink tank giving the error will not be lit. Remoe and re-insert it. Close the printer. Usually takes one try, sometimes multiple, but doing so will make the printer recognize the ink tank.

Permanent - You'll love this one, it's a trick that cost Sony millions in the mid 90s, and eventually forced them to refine their product. Simply head to Wal-Mart, and buy a new ink-tank to replace your defective one.

Now, place the defective one in the box, and take THAT back for a full refund. Explain how it's defective (printer won't recognize), and they send it back to Canon for a refund. This hurts Canon's bottom line, and if enough people do it, they'll put more effort into their ink tanks.
Thank you

Every now and then we get a defective cartridge, and Canon will replace it. If it's generic or refilled, you just need a new one. It's a cartridge problem, not a printer problem

The printer won't recognise the printer cartridges. I tried replacing older cartridges with new ones and even this doesn't work. They are genuine epson cartridges and the same ones I have always bought.

Check chip connnector at ink tank and at head carriage. It's may be dirty. Check status monitor? what ink tank not recognized. Press ink light (1-4 times) depends on number ink tank not recognized, press 1 time again, carriage will move co replacement position, unplug and plug again all ink tank, press ink light 1 more.

Printer error requests that a full ink tank is empty.

You can try cleaning the electrical contacts in the printer and on the cartridge with isopropyl alcohol followed by water to see if that fixes it. Then you can try removing all your cartridges, turning the printer off, unplugging it, waiting a few minutes, plugging it back in, turning it on, and waiting for the printer to recognize there are no cartridges installed before you reinstall the cartridges. Otherwise you may have damaged the chip on the cartridge with static electricity when installing it. If this is a new cartridge I would return it to the store you purchased it from and ask for a replacement.

Canon pixma MP600 wont recognize ink tank. Seldom used

I have the same printer and the only ink cartridges I use are Canons own.
I've tried these cheaper replacement ones and zip nothing will not recognise them.
It is false economy as now I have a full bank of copy ink cartridges that charity will not even accept.
Hope this helps!

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

Error code: U150 The following ink tank cannon be recognized (Cyan)

U150 ink error fixed!

I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.

This works!
