Question about Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD Recorder

Locked DVD Tray

I have a Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD video recorder. The disc tray appears to be locked. Even if I disconnect the power, or put the DVD in standby, - when the DVD is 'powered' on, it immediately displays the 'playing disc' symbol (as if it has one in its tray), then shows 'BYE' on the DVD. As soon as the OPEN/CLOSE button is pressed it repeats the process ... and we can't therefore open the tray? Any ideas please

I'm pretty sure the force disk eject is the same across all Panasonic models - however I couldn't find anything specific for your model number. Still worth a shot, though.

With the unit in standby, press and hold the 'Stop' and 'Ch up' buttons together. It should power up and force the tray open. If this doesn't work, try changing up your timing by pressing and holding 'Stop' first, then a half-second later, press and hold 'Ch up' and keep them both held together. You can also try the opposite.

If none of these work, it will have to be taken apart to get the disc out. If you aren't comfortable trying, it will have to go to service.

I apologize, you said tray lock, not stuck. The procedure to unlock the DVD tray - if it is, in fact, locked and not defective is to have the unit on and press and hold STOP and POWER for over 5 seconds. UNLOCK should display. The issue where the unit powers itself off - not sure. If you unlock the tray and successfully remove the disc, this may clear itself up.

SOURCE: I have a Panasonic DMR-HS2

The device is damaged, if you have warranty take it to the shop or a local repair shop / center.

It might have been caused by a power surge, Id recommend buying a surge protector to all the sockets where you have valuable devices connected.

I want to reset the reorder but i don't know how.

If you do not have your original instruction manual, you can download a free pdf from:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/model.DMR-HS2

(right-click and save link/target as... - it is a 3.2MB file (total size))

It may or may not help. Either way it's free.

Won't recognise DVD Ram and non-finalised discs from own recordings.

Hi,

Usually, the U11 error code in a Panasonic DVD player indicates an optical problem. You could of course try doing a cleaning using a CD cleaner normally readily from computer parts stores. Alternately, you can open the unit up and do a manual cleaning with soft bristle brush and/or cotton buds. Other than that, it could be indicative of a weakening laser eye which of course would require parts replacement.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you

need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa..

Check Panasonic.com for Firmware updates. If it has a reset button reset it. Take off the cover remove dust and lint, also clean laser eye with rubbing alcohol. DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE LASER LENS IF YOU PLUG IT IN, DURING THE OPERATION.

My dvd recorder (model DMR-EZ47V) says no disc, and won't open up the dvd tray, even though no disc is in it. It initially froze up after I watched a dvd-rw that I had recorded with the unit, and it would...

Panasonic, who has always put a real, live, English-speaking person on the phone with me within seconds of dialing, quickly figured it probably needs service.  They are sending me an order to send it in to one of their service centers.  They just needed my serial number.

Disc tray doesn´t open, no help from previous answers

One thing you can try is to disassemble unit and remove tray section . on the underneath side of tray is a plastic gear that will allow you to manually bring out the tray thus removing the dvd . then put back together and see if it works ok . Or just may only have to remove the spindle adaptor on the top of the dvd with the screws on the side that hold it down . then remove the dvd , put back together and try . Some disc's that a dvd player cannot read properly can cause the system to lock up as you described . Good luck

    DISC WILL NOT EJECT

Don't know if this will work for you, but I unplugged the player then plugged it back in again whlie holding down the power button. The player did not power up until I released the power button and pressed it again. That did it.
