Trying to install new flash player,, it tells me that i need to enter root password, ive never put a password on laptop so i cant enter the password as i dont know it,, can i have new password without having to enter old 1 first

"Yes" for installing any flash or any type or program you might Administrator password.As default Ubuntu has no password set for the root user. To gain root access you have to type in your own user password. This is the password you set for the first user while installing Ubuntu. To manually set a password for the root user, type in the following in the shell:


sudo passwd

After that you are asked to type in the new root password twice. Finally, your root user has its own password.

Now you enter the your password to install the flash or any other program.

MY grand daughter had the same problem and we had to install flash player 8 or 9 sorry i cant remember but the games would not load using my internet explorer 64bit or flash player 10

To solve Root Password problem :
Type
Sudo su -
then you need to change the password for root. do this by typing

passwd root

and then enter your password
