Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

Media Buttons and Finger Scanner

Hi there, for some reason the media buttons (AV button function) on my toshiba A100 will not funtion when used to play music and movies.  Secondly, the finger scanner is disabled too, I can swipe to log on but cannot use it when logged on to open my safe folder.  Do you have any clues as to what the problem is? If you could help I would be very much obliged.

Hey there
I have the same laptop (toshiba sat A100) and have had the same problem (and many others!) the only way you can get the buttons to work is if you use the product recovery disk and start over from scratch.. I have had to do this 4 times already - in the space of a year! The buttons seem to work fine for at least a month or so after re-installation of the operating system. After that time they just dont work (for reasons unk**wn to me - and trust me I have educated myself immensely trying to find a solution!) Even the toshiba support guys (unfort) couldnt help! Although the lady I spoke to last (support thru toshiba website) suggested I download drivers - 1. Toshiba common Module & 2. Toshiba Control again... Hope this helps..

I have ***** tried posting my pc dilemmas online b4. I thought 'why waste my time' as k**wing my luck (and im **t being negative - just a ralist! this laptop has been a bit of a nightmare - I was thinking I simply got a factory dud!) But anyway here it goes -
Can someone pls pls pls tell me how to reinstall bluetooth stack for windows by toshiba (the only one thats compatible with my laptop) so that my pc will accept it. All of a sudden my bluetooth radio was disabled and I couldnt get it to start up again. The original error code I was getting was Code 10-device can**t start. So I uninstalled then reinstalled. During bluetooth driver installation a msg box appeared asking me to 'plug in bluetooth device and click ok'. I have ** idea how to do this or even if I have to do this! As far as I k**w my bluetooth device is internal and besides I didnt have to do any of this when I first bought the laptop. I have tried everything to repair this to the best of my k**wledge. Even to the point of purchasing several device driver software tools and other xp repair tools - to ** avail!
Plssss can someone take amoment out of their day and respond with any suggestions.
Here are some details -
Toshiba Satellite A100
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
T7200 @2.00GHz
1.99 GHz, 512 MB of Ram
Model ** - PSAA9A-0K6038
Bluetooth (on label under laptop) - PA3418U-1BTM
WIFI (on label under laptop) - PA3489U-1MPC

I would really appreciate anyones assistance at this stage - even if its to make a suggestion. It may just lead me in the right direction.
Have a nice day all (regardless =>)

  • Hi, follow these instruction carefully, you can learn how to control the way the Pointer Device, and Mouse Pad operates. "You'll be able to change the way the device functions" this will make it easier for you to use it." First press the "start button," in the next window, in the ("right pane") click on the Control Panel "icon" this will open to a selection of categories; find and "select the Hardware and Sound. Next there will be more devices, select the Mouse. The Mouse Properties open, select the ("Device Settings") block. Next there will be (3) buttons, choose the "settings button." A new window will open to the Properties for the Synaptics TouchPad..." In the Select an item ("list"), select an item to see how the TouchPad / Mousepad / pointer Device functions; you can create setting to your preference of use. Note: click on the apply button after each change, or when all changes have been made, and click the OK button, to finish!" Restart the computer to finalize the changes, and the changes to take effect. "Did this solution help? if so Helpful Rating Feedback, appreciated, thanks paul7of9"

Media contoll buttons on a Toshiba Satellite A105 S4374

Usually these buttons only operate when the Toshiba software is fully installed. Check whether you do have the Toshiba Initial CD and try installing all there programms in terms of media .

Loud Beep on media control panels volume buttons.

I had the same problem. They sure make it tough for you, don't they? Urgh... it was annoying. Anyway, this is what fixed it for me, a solution from another site:

In the control panel, under sounds. Go to the speaker properties, and then the levels tab and mute the computer beep level.

Normaly you have to hold a function Key while pressing them. Also try reloading the chipset drivers and see if that helps.
