My cars panic alarm goes off by itself.

possible -but all these fancy electronics are beyond the realms of most people and you need the factory to reset and diagnose the fault .even us mechanics have to admit defeat with faults like this and return vehicle to the dealer then charge for the time involved in taking and collecting the car ,take it straight to the dealer yourself

Whirlpool oven turns itself down to temp 160

Hi Chris,
It sounds as if the down arrow button key is stuck on the touch panel itself. Essentially the oven thinks you are constantly holding down the down arrow. Likely the button is shorted out which is the cause of the fault.

You can test this with an Ohm meter to check for continuity between the various pins on the ribbon cable that connects the touch panel to the ovens main control board. Depending on the model the tech sheet will sometimes include this test information, but other times it won't.

Basically you you connect your meter clips across the appropriate pins on the ribbon cable, press the button, and you should then have continuity. If that buttons ribbon cable combination shows continuity without having the button depressed - that particular key is shorted.

This is not the typical DIY test as it's fairly involved and the ribbon cables are extremely fragile so proceed with caution.
Of course, be sure to unplug the oven or shut off the breaker before attempting any repair.

Another thing you may try if you haven't already is leaving the breaker off for 15min and see if the problem persists. It's always a good first step, but it usually does not good in this particular scenario.

I hope this information helps some.

I HAVE A ELVATOC/APS2K4SBCF. MY ALARM GOES OFF AND I CAN'T TURN IT OFF WITH THE REMOTE, THE HORN HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED AND NW IT CLICKS INCESSENTLY. HOW DO I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

You will need to find the override switch. Once you find it. You will need the alarm to reset itself. ONce it sets itself. Open the vehicle door, insert key in the ignition and switch to run position. Use switch to turn off alarm. If it is a push button, use same procedure but push button for about three to five seconds and it will turn off alarm.

I just changed both screens on my son's dslite. it turns on for a second then both screens flash and it turns off. ribbon connections are well fitted... any ideas?

Make sure the battery is charged first off, recheck the ribbon cable connections again for any signs of damage to the clasps, even if the ribbon cables look as if there tight in, give them a once over anyway. If all is good then its a possibility it could be the fuses on the logic board f1 and f2, it maybe worth giving that a try. If all above still fail then the board itself may be at fault so changing it could also be an idea.

My tomtom one goes off by it self

Try touching the screen instead of the power button

If that brings up the display try the procedure below.

It can usually be fixed and tends to be just an option in the preferences menu

Touch a regular map display once

Now touch the Safety Preferences once

Press Done until you see the Turn Off Map Display

Select NEVER

Select DONE

Select DONE one last time to return to the map.

You didn't say how old it was and if it has a lot of use and is coming up to 2 years old it may need the battery replacing.

Lumix fx30 wont turn on after i drop it

The first thing I would check would be the battery compartment, the Lumixes have horrible battery connectivity but can usually withstand some pretty heavy drops. Open the battery compartment and wiggle the battery about when you are turning it on and push it in slightly see if that helps. One of my Lumixes has about 3mm of tape on the end of the battery to force it in more now :)

Remote quit working.....tv comes on and goes off by itself at various times

Sometimes Buttons on remote control "stick" underneath the faceplate. It's possible the on/off button is jammed. A lot of times when a button is jammed the other buttons fail to work.

Could also be the reason you needed to replace the batteries with a button being continously pushed will drain the battery life.

Push every button on the remote and kinda wiggle each button while pushing to possibly see if its stuck.

Hope this helps.

Red line on screen

This is a screen address or data fault. It may be a bad connection on a ribbon cable, or a failure occurring in the matrix drive section. It is also possible that the fault is internal to the screen itself.

To even start fixing this you would have to know the physical location on the boards of where to look. For this you would need the detailed engineering schematics of your set which may be difficult to purchase from the manufacture (they never give these away). The attempt here would be to find the ribbon cable assembly, and any connections that are revelant to the data or address loss. The screen has many thousands of conductors in side the ribbon connections feeding it. It would be a long shot to see if you could find a cold solder connection that is possible to get at and re-solder with a very fine soldering tool. This is a long shot. And, the fault could be an intermittant failing component and not a cold solder connection.

The service rep would test this out by swapping out the boards and ribbon cable assemblies until the fault is found. Then he would leave in the parts that make the set work properly.

When out of warranty these sets are fairly expensive to service.

Problems with screen

This type of fault can be from the matrix decoder board that drives the display panel. It is also possible that the panel itself may have failed. There is a chance that there is a fault with one of the ribbon cable assemblies or one of the multi connector assemblies.

To answer your question, "YES" this type of service can be expensive. I would suggest to have an estimate done to see what the cost would be. Considering the continuous improvements in the technology, and the lowering of the prices it may be more feasible to replace the set. Most of the time, after a few years new replacement parts for these sets start to become scarce and their cost goes up.

Brother typewriter

make sure you power on the typewriter and space bar carrier until middle of bar. flip open cover and put ribbon in rear end first then push front to lock. i have to then turn orange knob on top of ribbon cassette in direction that arrow points just to tighten ribbon and that usually will lock the ribbon cartridge if it lock with first push. also, the ribbon itself goes in front of the 2 guides that stick up higher than the rest. hope this helps. if not you can look at brother website under that model and look at manual. it shows you how.
