ribbon cable is just pushed into where it came out of. There will be a locking mechanism on the point of connection. Ribbon wont go in all of the way until it is in the unlocked position. Once inserted, lock it again.
It is possible that the phone has hung up because there are errors in the software. So to reset remove the battery and the memory card from the phone. Using your PC , scan the memory card for any corrupt files or media files with virus- it is possible when they are downloaded from unsafe sites. If so remove or format the card. Now replace the card and battery and switch on the phone. If the phone hangs up then it is confirmed that the software is corrupt and will need a reinstallation. Seeking help from the authorized service /support centre is most ideal. Take estimate and decide.
Possible fault in the main board that is not controlling the backlight. Open to ccheck for display cconnections or connectors to the main board. the ribbon connections can also be a possibility.
If the door is closed many tiimes does it return back to normal, if so the ribbon connection can be cut.
no not in the moto razr.....what its sounds like is a fault between the main board and the lcd flip top........open the back panel by removing the battery back and battery and the screws. It will just pop off now. Make sure that when u put it bck together the ribbon cable from the lcd panel is firmly secured to the board. TRy it again

This is a common problem one the Sony Ericsson C905, there are 2 possible fixes for the handset.
The fault is caused by a faulty ribbon, the ribbon connect to the keypad runs under the screen and goes to the top of the handset connecting to the earpiece, it also has the 2 buttons built in (2 side buttons at the top of the phone.)
You can either replace this keypad, as its a common fault you can get these quite easily looks like the following image http://www.findmethatphone.co.uk/fixes/c905flex.jpg
The other fix, which is if you dont want to spend any money, but only if you can solder and are confident enough to do this, is to create a bridge from the right earpiece pad to the transistor just underneath, this is shown in the image below... Use small low res wire http://www.findmethatphone.co.uk/fixes/C905.JPG
The first thing to try is a hard reboot - this means taking the sim out for 20 mins and leaving it off. Put back together and test it to see what happens. If this doesn't work i would try your sim in another phone and another sim in your phone as you may have a lose sim connector. If your phone still turns off you know you've got handset fault. If the other phone turns off you know you've got a sim fault - if the later speak to you service operator.
If handset fault i would frist recommend (if possible) trying another battery as the charge indicator will not always relate to the battery correctly. If avaliable try looking for a software update from the Ericsson website - this may solve it. If still no luck then i would suggest a factory reset (THIS MAY LOSE SAVED DATA SO BACK UP IMPORTANT THINGS FIRST) if this doesn't work then it would suggest to me it's beyond repair and if under warrenty try getting it replaced.
