The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

What is f51

On some machines the F51 is a slow or long drain error. Possibly a clogged filter in the drain pump or a bad pump. You did not provide enough information for me to offer any more help. I do not know the washer type, manufacturer, age, or model.

Kenmore elite f 51 code

Error Code
  • Clear the error code and stop the beeping by pressing the "Stop" and "Start" buttons at the same time. Unplug your washer so you can examine the problem.
Function
  • The error code displays because something is wrong with the motor sensor. This can be for a number of reasons. After you clear the code, try washing clothes again and seeing if the error appears. If it does, then you need to take further steps.

Prevention/Solution
  • Check around the inner washer and underneath for any lost clothes or jammed objects. This can be anything from toys to shoes.
Considerations
  • If there are no objects, your washer parts may need to be cleaned or replaced. Call Kenmore at 800-4-MY-Home to talk to a service representative and find out about replacement parts.
Types
  • Along with "F51", error codes "F1" and "F50" could mean the same thing. Check for these error codes and follow the same procedure with your washer.

My washer wont spin and the add garment light stays on. Then it starts to beep with F51 or FSl (not sure if it is a 5 or an S) shows up. Doesn't do anything more but beep.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL once to clear code. Press START. If code appears again, read below

Basically, the F51 error is a rotor position sensor error.

What has to be fixed?
Two parts really need to be replaced. 1) the rotor sensor itself ($43) and 2) the control board ($197). Apparently, Whirlpool has yet to officially recall these parts, but there is a new board that has a reduced or no sensitivity to the rotor sensor and thus the problem should be corrected.

Can I fix it myself?
That depends on your level of handy-skills. If you're one who can work on late model foreign cars with ease, then this probably won't be a challenge. But for most amateur handy-"people" this will require a professional.
