HP Pavilion ze2308wm won't boot up

Hi, I have a laptop HP Pavilion ze2308wm When turned on it displays the startup screen with the HP logo and gives directions to press to change boot order, to run setup and to boot from lan. Immediately after that it beeps twice and prompts to press to resume, and to setup. It will not respond to any keyboard input at all. Ctrl-Alt-Del will not work... F1 or F2 will not work. F10, F12, and will not even work if I press it before the laptop beeps. No error is displayed. I've removed the hard drive, CD-Rom, memory modules (one at a time), CMOS battery... I have taken it all apart down just the motherboard, put it all back together plugged in, still no luck ... The laptop either beeps twice and gives the prompt for and or just freezes indefinitely at the startup screen. Did either of you guys find a solution?

Have you tried an external keyboard, either PS2 or USB depending on what ports are available?

Did you try booting off a CD?

    Is the battery fully charged?

Have you checked the DC input jack? These are notorious for failing. What happens it the center pin becomes loose causing arcing, low power input, over heating of jack, and sometimes melting of AC Adapter power connector where it plugs into laptop.

If none of this works most likely a motherboard fault.

You can get a replacement motherboard on EBay for around $80. Hard to tell if these are new or used and are shipped out of Hong Kong. I have bought many things on EBay from HK with good luck. Your results may vary (disclaimer).

You can buy new ones for around $150 from various locations. Part number for motherboard is 394252-001. Here is one I found.

Good luck, let me know what happens.

None of the keys work on hp logo screen F10, f11. f9. esc system won't boot from hard drive or cd

Hi,

are you using a usb keyboard? A lot of systems require a ps/2 (purple round connector) keyboard to access the bios settings and anything on the startup screen unless you have set usb on boot in the bios settings. I would try connecting a ps/2 keyboard and see if it helps.

Pavilion does not boot. Lights on strip below screen flash on and off. HDD drive does not come on

-If you are not able to boot in Windows but still able to get error codes like from windows you can just reinstall the Operating system using your recovery discs
-If there's no display at all even the HP logo upon startup its a motherboard issue
- if you are able to get the hp logo in startup but not able to go to windows its a RAM issue

HP Pavilion ze2308wm laptop won't boot up

It could be the memory modules (RAM). Get the information from those RAM sticks (manufacturer) and replace them with new ones to see if that solves the issue, if not then maybe the hard drive, and if it's neither of those, I hate to say it, but it sounds like a bad motherboard :(

Hi,
Prepare to Diagnose the Computer
Perform the following actions to prepare the computer for troubleshooting a startup problem.

1. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the notebook.
2.Remove any optical disks (CD or DVD), and disconnect any external devices or peripherals such as USB devices, printers, docking stations etc.
3.Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall socket.
4.Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

NOTE:After the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed, the Notebook PC may startup normally. If this occurs see Windows starts after the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed .

Symptoms and Resolutions

*Microsoft Windows starts, but a 'serious error' message is displayed that prompts you to send an error report to Microsoft for evaluation.
* Microsoft Windows starts , but the PC stops responding or restarts automatically
*Display is very dim during and after startup
*Microsoft Windows starts, but runs abnormally slow

How can I reboot without the cd

I think you want to reinstall the laptop to factory settings.
To boot into System Recovery tap the F11 key at Keyboard at startup,as soon as the HP/Compaq logo screen appears.

Please note that all your data will be deleted if you reinstall to factory settings

Startup

Disable the start up features on the wireless, if it has an enable/disable function. This will increase the boot speed, but you will have to manually turn on the wireless or search wireless connections manually. This is a common annoyance, doesn't quite qualify as problem, but there is no win win situation with this. Either you have slow start up or manual wireless.
