Yes if you are adding one more drive or installing a hard drive to your computer u need to set it to primary location if you want to boot from that Hard disk otherwise u can set it to secondry location .

Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem could not read

Well really need more info like what model what operating system so on. So it looks like the master pin on the hard drive is not set to primary master position. That pin set is different depending on manufacture. A Western Digital master pin set is actually no pin at all. So if you have the CDROM set as master and the pin set wrong on the hard drive the pc will not recognize a boot device. However if you have not changed anything in the pc at all the hard drive most likely bad.

How change prymari device?

You can either look into this online manual or follow the instructions given below.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4700/en/om/Y69490LRs.pdf

In the case of loading a particular Operating System(OS) from a specific Hard Disk, you can change the boot priority from BIOS (Hope you know to get into BIOS) as shown in the picture
1_7_2012_2_50_00_pm.png

Or if you want to change the physical configuration of your Hard Disks to Master and Slave, then follow these steps.
  1. Open up the side panel of your PC Case.
  2. Disconnect all the wires from both Hard disks.
  3. Look over the labelled top part of each hard disk to know the settings of JUMPER PIN so as to set it as primary(master) or secondary(slave). Please note that if you are using IDE hard disk, this may be enough. But in the case of SATA, inspite of this, you may also require to install RAID Driver after connecting them back into the computer. These drivers can be downloaded from http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection (You may require to set up your product manually and download Serial ATA drivers)
  4. (Connect them back, Screw up- if you haven't done it already). Now you may be able to use the required hard disks as primary(master) and secondary(slave).
You can also watch two videos of changing jumper of the hard disk. But be careful while replacing jumper. Any incorrect configuration or jumper setting or damage of pin may cause in device failure or result in damage of your hard disks. If you have any further doubts, feel free to ask me...

Remove or reset bios password on dell optiplex gx270 disktop with vista home edition. dell motherboard tried removal of battery didnt work

Look closely at the motherboard, for 3 gold pins in a row, with a "jumper" between two of the pins, say pin 1 (end) and pin 2 (centre).

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Move the jumper to connect pin 2 (centre) to pin 3 (other end).
Count to five.
Move the jumper back to its original position.

Voila! You have "reset" the BIOS, and have deleted the password.

Computer fails to boot. searching for either hard

These pins are referred to as "jumpers". Each manufacturer can have their own jumper settings. Each device should have letters indicating which pins correspond to master, slave, or cable select. The best method to insure operation is to use the cable select (CS) jumper setting. Using this setting, the hardware will be automatically configured.

if you want to connect two hard drive together then remove the jumper of the primary hard drive and don't touch the setting of the secondary drive then start the system.always make primary drive which have the os.
