plug it on the back of the panel not on the front, or try to plug to other computer, if the problem still thesame then your external drive would be the problem.
external HDD are plug and play devices and will be recognized automatically, the problem detecting large capacity drives like this relies on what type of hardware you are using (laptop itself). what I am trying to point is that old laptop only recognize lower capacity drives and thus have this issue.
but if you are using the latest hardwares and OS, just let me know so that i can pin point the problem.
Plug it in, then on your desktop right click the My Computer icon, then click on Manage. From the window that opens click on Disk Management. In the right hand pane, you may then see your drive displayed. Right click in the lower right pane on your device and click on Explore. If it open the drive to show the files, you should be able to come out of all the windows and then access the drive normally.

Please check the External Hard-drive to some other computer it it is working fine then check the services and turn on the plug and play start - run - type services.msc select the look for Plug and Play
please change the boot setting in BIOS to hdd first then other and save it .... now try to connect the external hdd to pc and switch on .......................... ( make sure your internal HDD should be first boot able device .......)
Try checking your bios to see what harddrive the computer boots from. Your PC might be trying to boot from that samsung story which I assume doesn't have an OS installed.
Toshiba could only replace my HD after destroying the data on it, So I just bought a separate empty HD casing instead and opened the Toshiba casing and took out the Western Digital Harddisk. The harddisk was perfectly working, It seems that the Toshiba controller in their casing got messed up. (Never a Toshiba for me, because by solving the problem myself in the appropriate manner I lost their useless warranty).
My question would be are the movies in the right format. Just because they play on your computer does not mean they will play on you DVD.NTFS or FAT 32 would have no bearing on this. They are simply data per sector protocols and are related to magnetic storage devices. You may need the proper codec for you computer so it can make a DVD you player can play.
