I dont know what range is

At least two meanings.
In statistics ( say 1-var), let Xmin be the smallest value in the data set, and Xmax the largest value in the set.
Range= Xmax-Xmin

In functions and graphes
Let y=f(x) be a function, x is the independent variable and y the dependent variable.
The domain of the function is the set of all possible values that the independent variable can have: it is the pool where x takes it values, and the function f(x) its inputs.
The range of the function f(x) is the set of all possible values of the dependent variable, the set of all possible outputs of the function f(x)

Write the equation of a line parallel to the given line but passing through the given point. y=1/4x-2;(8,-1)

Being parallel to the given line, the equation of the line you are seeking has the same slope, which in this case is a=1/4.
So the equation sought is as follows
y=(1/4)x +b, where b is to be found.
To find b, use the stated fact that the line passes through the point (x=8, y=-1). All that means is that the point (8,-1) is on the line whose equation you are looking for. If it is on the line with equation y=(1/4)x+b
then its coordinates x=8, and y=-1 satisfy the relation y=(1/4)x+b. In other words, if you substitute 8 for x, and -1 for y, the equality holds true -1=(1/4)*8 +b
This gives you a way to find the initial value of the function (the y-intercept b ). Just solve -1=(1/4)*8 +b to find b.
I leave this pleasure to you.

In algebra formula,,,,carpeting cost $20.00 sq. yd you carpet a room that has a width of 15 ft, for $ 800.00 ,,what is the lenght of the room

Here is the Solution:

1. Convert 15 ft into yards. 1 yard = 3 feet
=> 15 ft = 5 yd

2. Find the area of the given room. The cost for given room is given, and cost for carpeting 1 sq. yd is given. So,
800/20 = 40 {i.e. 40 sq. yd (area of the given room)}

3. Now, Length * Width = Area
=> x * 5 = 40 [Taking Length = x yd]
=> x = 40/5
=> x = 8 yd
=> x = 8 * 3 ft
=> x = 24 ft

So, Length of the given room is 24 ft (8yd).

I hope this solved your problem (in time).
