Same problem - I'll give the harness thing a try tonight

Same problem. error-ao message after my battery died from leaving lights on. Jumped the car off and then the error message. Unplugging the harness for an hour+ did the trick! BTW, I also called Pioneer customer service and this was their suggestion also. I didn't have the removal keys so I had to go to the Best Buy that installed it to have the head unit pulled so I could disconnect the harness. Pioneer suggested leaving it unplugged for an hour to ensure all of the voltage was drained from the capacitors to allow the unit to reset. BTW, I tried pulling the fuse to the radio in the fuse panel first. This did not work. Pioneer discouraged unhooking the positive battery cable of your car because voltage spikes can occur when hooking the battery back up and result in damage to the head unit.

Same problem. Battery went dead and I received the error AO message when I tried to play a CD. A Circuit City installer pulled my deck with the extraction keys and grounded out the deck by applying one of the wires to the small indentation on top of the deck. That reset the theft prevention on the CD player and I was happy until my battery went dead again. :(

Okay. i have had the same problem before. along with that problem, if i push buttons while in another mode, ie. fm/am radio, it's like the buttons on the deck were re-mapped or one button does a different action than it should. now, i found that when i connected the radio, i had the faceplate on, with the battery terminals still connected. this apparently sends a surge or something to that effect through the radio, causing the cd player to not work, the buttons re-mapping and so on. in order to reset itself, you have to unplug the harness from the back. take the face plate off, then wait about 30 minutes just to be sure that all "left over" power is released. after all that, just plug the harness back in, with out the face plate attached, then put the faceplate on. it should work. after the first time it happened to me, i did everything to replicate the problem, then found out about the faceplate causing it. trust me, try it out and it'll work everytime.

HI,

I know it means "electrical or mechanical problem" according to the manual. You probably are not able to read or even eject a CD. There is no solution offerred, so you will have to get professional help.

I will suggest first contacting Pioneer at www.pioneerelectronics.com, email or call tech support. Read the online user manual also if you don't have one. They might refer you to a local repair shop, and you can always try to get help from whoever installs the unit for you or you have bought it from.

Sorry that I won't have further knowledge on this. My instinct will be to disconnect the power completely and see if it resets.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution

Ooood ao on display screen

you probably already solved your problem by now, or you probably have a different stereo, but in case you haven't let me tell you what I just did. you just have to reset you system, to do that you take off the front part and stick a pen in the reset hole. The reset hole is in the lower right corner.

Error ao pioneer head unit

If the discs PHYSICALLY get stuck, then the mech is damaged. A local shop MAY be able to fix it, but it might be a better investment to just replace the radio.

i have that same problem. when i turn the volume up, it shuts off but comes back on right away. the only thing i can think of is i'm not running the constant power directly from the positive terminal on the battery (which is what is recommended). not sure if thats the solution but im gonna try and wire it right anyway...

You need to visit Alpines' site to download the owner's manual for your unit. In the mean time here is some info from the troubleshooting guide for your error code.

• Mechanism error.
1. Press the "eject" button and eject the CD.
If not ejecting, consult your Alpine dealer.
2. When the error indication remains after ejecting,
press the "eject" button again.
If the error indication still does not turn off after
pressing the "eject" button for a few times, consult your
Alpine dealer.
Note
When the "- - - E" is displayed:
In case that the disc cannot be ejected by pressing the "eject"
button, press the RESET switch (refer to page 4) and
press the "eject" button again.
If not ejecting, consult your Alpine dealer.

Good luck.

DEH-1900MP - lost functionallity after disconect/connect batery

Yes for some radio's if you take away power it has a theft lock and will not let you back in except if you have the code. To reset you must take power away from it. I would suggest if you don't want to take cd player out of car then disconnect battery. then when reconnect eject. May have to set for a moment.
