Valve clearances are the small gaps between the tops of the valve stems and the part of the mechanism which presses on them to open the valves . Check the clearances at regular intervals as specified in the car service schedule, and adjust if necessary. Reset the clearances whenever the cylinder head has been removed.

Check the Workshop manual for either the "Henry"or a Mazda as they were the same unit

if it does not have hydraulic adjusters then .012" inlet hot and .014" exhaust hot. If it has hydraulic adjusters then the noise will be from worn rocker shafts and rocker bushes.

2nd hose is for you positive crankcase ventilation(PCV) valve hose....(like a breather hose)

rule of thumb for most engines 10/12 th inlet 15/17 th exhaust ,like 25th for the plugs ,4th per inch of the diameter of the piston for piston ring gap ,water cooled 20th for air cooled engines ,1342 firing order or 153624 ,cannot remember the 8 cylinder firing order
