Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Jenn-Air JGD8130 We've discovered that our new Jenn-Air JGD8130 gas cooktop does not produce high enough heat to properly boil pasta or fry food. The natural gas burners are rated at 10,000 BTU and 8,000 BTU. Can larger diameter venturis be installed, or the existing venturis bored out to increase the BTU output. The 8,000 BTU burners have a venturi diameter of 0.052 inches and the 10,000 BTU burners have a venturi diameter of 0.055 inches. The problem is not becuause of our gas supply since our previous 40 year old Hardwick range that this cooktop replaced before our kitchen wias remodeled produced plenty of heat to rapidly cook food. It takes forever to cook or grill anything on this range. The downdraft vent seems to pull all of the heat out

Same problem with Jenn Air JDS9860aaw. 10,000btu burner does not perform well. Disappointing for an $1,800.00 appliance.

I am using propane for my cooktop but all my pots and pans have been turning burnt black soot on the bottoms. It's ruining all my other dishes now from the dishwasher spreading it all over, We tried...

You don't have the right Gas to Air ratio..... Not enough air to the burners or you are running to low of gas pressure for propane... Propane takes a smaller orfice or operate than Natural Gas.....
You should have 10" of WC for Propane operation..
You will need a manometer to check it.
The flame should be a blue color with no yellow in it. There should be air shutters right at the orfice to each burners. You will have to play with the adjustment to get the best blue flame with no yellow in the flame.... Hope this helps.....

Yes. Buy a burner module. Sears sells them also most appliance part stores. (I am assuming you have the model with 2 knobs on the grill side) The electric version of burner modules is around $100 Gas should be similar price.

The problem is the pot(s) is too far from the heat. Jenn-air needs to make a burner cover that is closer to the burner for boiling water...
