After years of using the same setup I get a communication error on my Epson r290.

Sounds like you have multiple drivers. On the MAC, go to the printer set up window in system preferences and select the r290, then go to the "-" minus icon at the bottom to dump the r290 from the list. Restart the computer with the r290 connected and see if the system recognizes it again in the preferences window. Hit the + icon to add it. Hope this helps.

I cant get my 4650 to scan it keeps saying downloading application list but it never does anything

If you are scanning documents to edit or save as PDF file, you will need to install the OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark OCR scan software is available only on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center to request for one.
If scanning from your printer to your computer was working previously, then it could be just a slight communication problem. A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected) > reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to scan again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection (if USB connected). If printer is connected wireless, wait until the WiFi light on the printer turns on solid green before trying to scan a document.

I keep gertting this message "communication not available". I have done all the toubleshooting suggestions. The orange astrisk mark continues to blink. the cable has no kinks in it. what is my next step,...

try uninstalling all the usb hubs from the device manager and restart the computer but note that before you do that all the external devices should be unplugged. like printer , modem and anyother if there is any.
once you restart the computer automatically the hubs will get installed. also check with other usb ports.
if all this will not work then uninstall the printer driver compleately and after restarting the computer reinstall the printer driver .

The printer is not recognising the new ink cartridges after replacements

Was the printer connected to your computer when the cartridges were installed? If not then this is probably the reason for it not recognizing them. Turn off the printer, remove cartridges, turn the printer on again. All the while the usb should remain connected to your computer which is turned on.
Once the printer registers or shows via a pop up that there are no cartridges installed, open the front cover and install the cartridges. This time it should communicate the ink levels to your PC.
I once had this problem and till the end (i had not done the above method since i didnt know then) it never told me that my cartridge was full; which it always showed as empty. The printing however was never affected. You should try this method and if it doesnt work dont worry, your printer will print as before on full cartridges.

When printing message says x2650 cannot communicate with computer

It seems there is a possibility of a problem with the printer itself, or perhaps the cartridges. You should first self-test the printer. Since we are unsure where the problem exists, we must do eliminative troubleshooting to rule out parts of the printing system. The self-test allows us to rule out software and the cable by testing the hardware by itself. Please note that this is not a "fix," but rather a diagnostic test to determine if your hardware is at fault.

Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:

1. Please turn OFF the printer.
2. Press and hold the "Color copy" button.
3. Now, turn ON the printer.
4. Once you see "0" on the display, release the "Color copy" button.
5. Press the Up arrow button until "2"appears on the display.
6. Press the "Black copy" button to start the self test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop printing.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed by itself. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault. The issue may be a communication problem, or perhaps a software conflict.

However, please let me know the windows operating system installed on the computer. This information is required for us to troubleshoot the issue further.

Please let us know the name and version of the operating system (Windows XP / 2K / NT, Windows Vista, Mac) that you are using on your computer. This information is important for us to troubleshoot the issue further.

Cannot install printer lexmark x2600m

Restart your computer. Unplug the USB cable from the printer. Restart your computer. Once your desktop is loaded up. Plug the USB cable back into the computer and look next to the clock in the lower reight corner of the screen to see if the drivers are being installed. You will get messages about it.

A lot of times when you install the drivers for Lexmark printers, the prefer to have the printer unplugged from the the comptuer during the installation process. If the above paragraph doesn't work you may want to uninstall them and reinstall the drivers again with the printer unplugged from the computer.

Instalation problem

Hi there! I just installed a Lexmark x5495 on my HP Pavilion with Windows XP and fought it for 3 days solid! Turns out my Norton Internet Security settings were blocking printer communication. Don't know if this will help your problem, but if you have Norton, it's worth a try. Just open your Norton, click on the internet security tab, then status & settings, then personal firewall, then programs, then scroll down to printer communication system and make sure it is set to "permit all". I also set my printer spooler service to permit all. The printer worked like a charm after that. I still don't know what Norton has to do with a local printer, but it was not allowing communication between puter and printer. Funny, but it worked fine with my old printer with that setting just as it was. Good luck!

How to use buttons on Lexmark printer, plus having problems it tell me not connected .

Make sure that you have the Lexmark "All In One Center" installed - that's usually the problem when you get communication errors.

First, you'll need to install the software and driver for this printer:
  1. Make sure you have the regular printer driver installed. If you don't, you can grab it from the Lexmark website and install it.
  2. Next, keep your USB cords plugged in but turn your printer off.
  3. Download the All-In-One Center Software here.
  4. Unpack the archive, open the "Applications" folder, anddouble-click Setup. This will install the application - it can take abit.
  5. Once the application is installed, turn the printer on and try a test scan. If it works, you're good and can quit reading.
  6. If you get an error when running a test scan, don't panic.Reinstall the regular printer driver, using the "Update Driver" optionthat appears.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Do a new test scan. This should bring up the All In One Center'sloading screen, which will start searching for programs (this canreallllly take a while). When it's done, everything will be workingbeautifully again!
Then, hit Lexmark's site for the Setup Sheet and User Guide available here.

When the next screen appears, connect the USB cable and click OK. The printer should now be installed and ready to use. Already installed the software but it appears the printer driver is not installed To verify the printer driver is not installed follow these steps: Attach the USB and power cable attached to your device Restart your PC Click Start. Click Control Panel. Click Printers and other Hardware if the icon exists. Click Printers and Faxes If your printer does not appear in the list then please follow the remaining instructions below.
