Microwave Power Blew Out - Kenmore Elite Model 721.63763300

OTC 2004 Model. Just finished heating 2 meals - 1 for 10 minutes & 1 for 2 minutes. Had the door open for a minute or so and put another dish in the microwave. Immediately upon closing the door a flash occurred and the power went out on the microwave. I replaced the ceramic fuse (based upon recommendations from this site) - still nothing. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The flash seemed to occur from behind the area where the door latches.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a very helpful "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel. It's very helpful when troubleshooting.

Kenmore Elite microwave model 85513 doesn't heat like it use to only 1/3 power what has to be replaced

An intermittent or failing magnetron could cause the problem. Although extremely rare, an intermittent high voltage rectifier can also cause this.

Kenmore model 721 - Cooked a meal for 30 minutes. Afterwards the microwave did not heat. However, the next day it worked. A few days later, was operated for 20 minutes, and again did not heat, and has not...

Yes, there is a thermostat device located on the magnetron. It will open up (turning off the magnetron) when it gets too hot, and it will reset automatically after it cools back down (in 5 to 15 minutes). The question is, Why is is over-heating? Usually it is caused by the exhaust fan being turned the wrong way. (For example, it may be set to exhaust the air out through the top of the microwave, but you don't have a vent there.) That fan can be turned to exhaust air out the top, out the back, or recirculate the air back through the front of microwave. It's easy to turn it around - the hard part is that you have to take the microwave down to be able to pull the fan out and rotate it the right direction.

If everything sounds the same as it did prior then I suspect the magnetron.

Kenmore Elite Microwave oven 63792 doesn't heat - all lights, turntable, fan, etc. work just fine.

Most likely it would be a bad magnetron since the light, turntable, and vent fan are running.

Kenmore Elite taking long time to heat items

This is most likely a failing magnetron.

If it's less than 5 years old, Sears/Kenmore should cover the part, but you would still have to pay for a service call.

If you or someone you know decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Kenmore elite microwave oven displays "Locked" and will not respond

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.
