Hi, I had the same problem with mine and found that if you plug the power head directly into the handpiece (bypassing the telescopic wand) and it worked only proved the problem is in the telescopic wand. The problem as I found was a broken terminal in the end that connects to the powerhead (female socket). As it is a non repairable part means replacement at $100AUS I have had my machine for 3 years and in this time have replaced the both powerhead once and the wand twice within 2 years of owning the machine. The wand has now gone faulty again 4 months after replacing it and consequently Electrolux only warranty spares for 3 months which I think is poor! Its a great machine but a little too delicate even if it is only used for domestic operations once a fortnight! I paid $700 for my Oxy3 3 years ago and wont be buying another Electrolux product due to poor service (customer and product):((
Hi there, you should just be able to hold the telescopic wand in one hand, press the button and pull the whole length of the wand out to its fullest position.
If the telescopic wand on your particular Dyosn is very stiff, you may need a replacement.
Your machine may still be under guarantee or warranty. If this is the case, please contact Dyson directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
1. You have to verify if it's simply the belt that has broken and the spinning brush isn't spinning because of it. Place your ear next to the top of the power head to listen for the power head motor. If electricity is getting to the head you'll hear the motor and know to inspect the belt.
2. If the motor doesn't run, look at the electrical pin connectioins in the pipe from the hose to the head. Are they burnt? If yes a new wand is needed. Also check the electrical connections in the hose handle and make sure they are not burnt.
Make sure that the vacuum hole in the head unit, or the wand, or the hose is not blocked. You may also want to check the bag to make sure that the inlet hole is not blocked. The only reason for spitting things back out is that the suction is not working properly...
I have a electrolux 2000 and my tube has a small tab that you push before it would let me release it. I had trouble getting it off as well. What I did was push the tab, Plasing one foot on the vaccume head holding it down while pulling up and twisting. I'm not sure if yours is attached the same way but this method worked for me. Good luck!
Do you have a telescopic/height adjustable wand or just two tubes which have to be stuck together? If they are made of plastic well, it may well be broken. If its metal check that the tops aren't corroded or the handle itself isn't broken. If the tubes/wand isn't sliding up and down (i.e. if its height adjustable) then something has got stuck. Sadly for this kind of repair you'd be better off to buy replacement wands or consider something aftermarket on EBAY. Check the diameter of the tubes with a ruler. If it is 3.2cm (32mm) or 3.5cm (35mm) you can buy replacement tubes. If you can't afford that then try furniture polish on a J cloth or similar and with a stick wedge it inside the tube/wand so that it adds a little lubrication or simply a clog - it sounds like there is dirt clogged in the part that slides. Dont forget to rate, thanks.
There is a reset on the power head, does the wand fit tight in the neck of the power head, if not you may have a problem there, either the wand or the neck. If the lever is stuck on, then it is jammed or broke, maybe a spring is out of place, in any event the canister will have to be taken apart to see what the problem is.
