I wouldn't pay to have it fixed. The power capacitors are most likely bulging. Replace them and the tv will work fine. If you have a saudering gun and about $5 you will still have a TV. Did it to mine and my inlaws and it works still great!!
Call LG customer service at 877-543-8325. Make sure you have your model and serial #. They will ask for proof of purchase. If you don't have it see if they can search for a commercial purchase receipt, they found mine that way and I bought mine at Circuit City. When I called they picked up almost immediately. I mentioned the model and the "pop". I'm waiting on a call back but it appears they are going to do something for me and I am out of warranty. Good luck.

Most likely a power supply component has aged and thus changed value and/or
failed. Take it to a reputable repair person.
