Top rack not cleaning; now dishwasher does not even turn on.

The dishwater problems started with the top rack not getting clean; the bottom rack was cleaning fine. Subsequently, the diswasher stopped near the end of its cycle, and will not turn on now. We checked the circuit breaker - it's fine. There is about 1.5" of standing water in the bottom.

Glasses int he top rack of my kitchenaid dishwasher don;t get clean. they finish the run spotted and covered in what looks like baked on dirty dishwater. dishes in the lower rack look ok, but the...

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1/4 of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

Dishes in the top rack not getting clean. Bottom rack is fine.

Your filter/chopper is clogged. You have to clean it out and that will restore water pressure to the top rack.
  1. Remove the bottom rack.
  2. Remove the top rack
  3. Remove bottom Spray arm (turn top nut clock wise)
  4. Take off the delivery tube by turning it clock wise over the heating element ( undo the two clips one at the back and one on top)
  5. Take out the screw for the top screen and remove top
  6. Take one screw out for chopper housing and remove
  7. Remove chopper and clean or replace chopper if broken
Reinstall all parts and test.
That should help please rate your experience. Thanks

The spay tower in the bottom fell out. should

If the spray tower is not in place then water will not get to the spray arm for the upper rack. You should be able to re-install the tower. Look for small tabs at the bottom that fit into slots in the mounting. The tabs should snap in or lock when the tower is turned slightly. If the tabs are broken off you should replace the tower. You can use the dishwasher without it but he dishes on the top rack will not get cleaned and the pressure tot he bottom spray arm may be reduced causing dishes to not get completely coean.

I know this isnt the same model, they dont carry your manual as of yet. But it does have some suggestions to look at on page 17. I had the same problem and I looked really carefully and found my sprayer arm was blocked. I cleaned it out and havent had a problem with it again. I do check it regular now.

My whisper quiet dishwasher is not cleaning the top rack dishes

I'm having the same problem. Did some testing and found that the sprayer on the top rack is not even moving and hence not getting any water. Not sure what to do.

Dishwasher not cleaning dishes

I had the same problem and fixed it by disassembling the lower spray arm and return filter, and cleaning all the junk out.
Most dishwashers have 'risers' that bring the water up to the top sprayer or arm located under the top rack. If the recirculating pump is plugged even a little there won't be enough volume or pressure to get the water up there.
Test this by putting a dry muffin pan in the top rack, flat, and running the dishwasher for a bit. If there is no water on the top (or the bottom) either the top sprayer or the sprayer arm underneath the top rack is not getting enough volume.
To fix this you need to clean out the screen and filter, where the water returns to be recirculated. If you don't have any confidence to remove the parts and clean it out yourself, get an appliance repair person to do the job.

Kitchenaid, new dishwasher, stopped cleaning top rack dishes

The problem most people encounter with dishwashers is a simple inability to get the dishes clean. There might be stuck-on food or residue from the detergent. A water pressure problem may be the culprit. You may need to replace the water intake valve. Another common problem is mineral build-up. If your house has hard water, the mineral build-up can clog the water jets. Clear each jet with a wire or pin, and run an empty load with some vinegar in the detergent dispenser about once a month.

Sometimes, the dishwasher has problems draining properly. There could be a clog in the drain hose, or a problem with the pump. It's also possible that the dishwater is getting too sudsy, and sensors in the washer aren't detecting the soap foam as water. This causes it to shut down the drain cycle too early. Just use less detergent.
