Cobra microtalk will not charge

this is the sign of a damaged or dead battery pack. they can be rebuilt at Batteries Plus or replaced. I would also try alkaline batteries in the radio before spending money on new battery packs. Most rechargeable battery packs must be kept charged regularly, and should be fully discharged before recharging, or they will be damaged and end up with a limited lifespan. IF you are handy with a multimeter you can check to see that the charger is putting voltage out by placing the probes on the contacts while it is plugged in. especially if the cord is twisted or looks stretched, but generally it is the battery not the charger.

Charge but no charge

Make sure the 3 AAA batteries are placed in the unit correctly and make sure the correct rechargeable batteries are being used. Also make sure the outlet you are using to plug your radio in is actually working. If it is new give it a full 14 hours for the first charge. If you do all of this and it is not charging then you have either a faulty power cord, bad batteries or you have a malfunction in the charging area of your radio.

The Scanners Plugin does not charge the scanner

There are at least three possible causes.

1. Dead/worn out batteries. If your batteries are more than a year old there's a good chance that it's time to replace them. Before you do that, though, check the batteries with a volt meter or try using them in something else that uses two AA batteries. If the batteries check out OK, then your problem is likely #2 or #3 below.

2. Bad charger. Check the output with a voltmeter or try charging another set of AA batteries (in the scanner) with it.

3. Corrosion buildup on the battery terminals and/or contacts in the scanner. If no buildup (usually a white, crusty substance) is visible, wipe both ends of the batteries, and the contacts inside the scanner with a clean, dry cloth, and then try charging them in the scanner. If there's a visible buildup, you can clean the batteries and scanner contacts with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper. Be sure to remove any residue from the battery compartment before you reinsert the batteries.

I hope this helps.

Batteries do not charge when plugged into mains

Check the batteries and the connections inside the scanner for corrosion. If necessary, clean both with a dry cloth, fine wire brush, or steel wool. Check the batteries for continuity and voltage. If they are shorted, "dead," or more than a year old you should replace them. Also check the output of your charger. It's rare for a charger to go out, but it does happen.

I have a uniden bear cat scanner

That scanner dates back to 1987, so chances are that the battery pack is well beyond charging. I found a new battery pack here:
but it will set you back more than $90. Another option is to open/dismantle the battery back and use a battery insert. You can purchase one for $12.95 here:
The original battery is rated at 7.2VDC, but the charging circuit is set up for 12VDC at 500mA, so stay with your 12 volt charger.

Batterys wont hold a charge

It's never a good idea to ship a scanner (or anything else) with the batteries installed, as you never know what the package might experience enroute. About all you can do is replace the rechargeables with fresh NiMH batteries. If they don't take or hold a good charge you need to contact the company that "fixed" the scanner.

It is very likely that the batteries need charging, tip, charge them in a separate charger, if the batts are low, the scanner asks for confirmation to charge them (it is not automatic) and with no display you won't see this message and will forever keep trying to charge them without confirming "yes" for the scanner to do it!!.

I just received my new uniden scanner, and I am having problems with charging the radio. I was wondering do I have to have batteries in it ,to charge it with the dc that came along with the radio. How do I...

The BC72XLT is a battery-operated scanner, and your power supply is a battery charger, not a battery eliminator. You must have batteries in the unit for it to operate. You can install rechargeable batteries and use it in conjunction with the power supply, or you can run it on non-chargeable alkaline batteries.

Ac addapter not working

I had the same issue when I first got my scanner. There is a switch in the battery compartment that you need to set so it will charge the batteries. It is there so if you're using non rechargeable batteries you wont charge them in ruin your scanner when they leak/explode. Hope this works for you.

BC297D discharges too quickly

if you have a volt meter you can check the battery voltage, and also the voltage of the charger. If the batteries are nicads expect 1.2 volts per cell if they are the AA or AAA size, 1.5 volts for the nickel metal hydride cells. the voltage of the charger should be equal to the total voltage of the batteries it is chargeing.
