I bought a Linksys BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router W/4 Port, it dosnt seem to work with windows 7 and i dont know why, need help...

To get this right, you're also going to need your hardware version number. It's on the same sticker that all the info is.It'll be 1.0,2.0 or 2.1.
Go to the link below,it will take you to the support page for the router. It doesn't include Windows 7 drivers, but it should run on the Vista drivers.
Read the different links to info and see if it can answer your questions.Probably so.
You can also download firmware for the different hardware versions. If what's listed there is newer than yours, you absolutely want to install the firmware.
You also want to go to the Linksys router setup page and go through the wireless and network setup processes again.I have to do that periodically with my D-Link because the power fails here a lot and it resets to default.
Let me know what happens, and if you need,I'll keep trying.
For good or bad, please rate my post?
Thanks
Bob

After updating firmware, power light is blinking

Is the router settings menu 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 available from internet explorer? The factory user password should be admin. If you cannot get the router menu to come up the firmware may have been corrupted. Hopefully you can get to the menu or try and re-install the firmware.

Linksys router limits speed to 5 meg.

Try to access the router's setup page and change the MTU settings. The default address for the Befsr41 is 192.168.1.1. Here are instructions:

1) Use a computer wired to the router.
2) Launch a browser and type in 192.168.1.1, leave the username blank and the password is admin or the password you have set when you first configured the router.
3) Click on the Advanced tab then click on the Filters tab. On the bottom part you have MTU.
4) Enable that option and set MTU to 1500, 1400, 1300 (for cable ISP connection) and 1492 (for DSL connection) and check if it will work.
4) If that does not work, you can try upgrading the firmware of your router.

How to upgrade the firmware on a BEFSR41

Firmware upgrades may erase all previous settings to your router's configuration. Before upgrading your firmware, make sure to record your settings. 1. Unplug and disconnect all computers from the router except for one. This computer must be plugged into the router directly. There can be no other network activity on the router during the upgrade, so be sure to power off all other computers. 2. Go to http://www.linksys.com/download 3. Select the model number of the Linksys router you have (BEFSR41) as firmware upgrades vary by model and version. You can find your router version underneath your router after the model number. For example, ?BEFSR41 Ver. 3?. 4. Click the Downloads for this Product button. 5. Once you arrive on the download page, click the Firmware button. 6. After the firmware page opens, click the link that says ?Click here to download the latest firmware...? and download the firmware file to your computer. 7. Once you download the firmware Zip file, unzip it. If you do not have an unzipping program, go to http://www.winzip.com and download WinZip, which will allow you to unzip the file. 8. After unzipping the firmware files, one of them will be called TFTP.EXE. Double click on it. 9. When the ?Upgrade Firmware? window opens, you will have three prompts. The ?Server? field is for the IP address of your router; by default this would be 192.168.1.1. 10. Enter the routers password into the ?Password? field; by default the password is admin. 11. Browse for the file in the Firmware Upgrade utility program by clicking on the button next to file with the '?' symbol on it. Look for the file named 'code.bin' in the folder where the firmware files were extracted to. 12. Highlight the code.bin file and click on the Open button to direct the TFTP loader program to put that file into the "File" box. 13. The full path should be displayed [example: c:\linksys\code.bin]. 14. Click on the Upgrade button to begin the upgrade process. 15. The upgrade should take about 1 minute, and you will be prompted after the upgrade is complete and successful. If you are still having troubles, contact Linksys Technical Support.
