Call log and text messages have disappeared...

I have had this problem before and a rep at the store helped me with a setting that, I think, has to do with the phone call log and text log being saved to my media card vs. the SIM card. The problem I am having is that the call log and text log have disappeared. My phone no longer receives text messages and my call log will not show anything. I know this because many friends have told me they have tried texting me today and I have no texts on my phone. If I send a text, they receive them but it automatically disappears from the text log. The only way I know if someone has called me is if they leave a message. It will tell me that I missed a call but when I go into the call log there is nothing there. Do you know what the problem is and what setting I need to change?

I have the same problem and it pisses me off when it happens. I called a Blackberry rep and he informed me that it is a problem with the RIM software and that they are hard at work trying to fix it. We might have to purchase additional software to fix this problem. It sucks but what can you do.

I periodically have all messages and texts disappear from my phone. This includes the phone log also. Tried reloading and all sorts of stuff. Ready to give it a throw next time it happens.

Very frustrating! Frustrated with Blackberry Curve with problem with text messages disappearing. All outgoing responses to incoming text messages are saved then they are gone in minutes. Also, Call Log only shows incoming calls and missed call time stamps temporarily then they disappear. Problem started on April 6th, 08 the day when our 3rd baby was born. All my outgoing text and responses were gone on just that day. Thought it was maybe the hospital not having good signal...but having problem ever since. I was only able to read a few of my text messages that day, then hoped to read them the next day. The next day all the text messages and responses were gone. Prior to this day I have had no problems. I've tried working with the options (Hide Sent messages), "enabling" then "disabling" but still no text messages are saved

Here is the help I got from another forum:

This is caused by the device having a low amount (or none at all) of memory. When the memory gets lower (lower than 12MB in some cases, although there is not a set number) the device will start deleting messages and/or call logs to conserve memory. You can check your available memory by going to Options > Status and checking the File Free parameter.

The quickest way to free up some memory is to perform a hard reset. Remove the battery from the device (while it is still powered on) for about 30 seconds, then reinsert.

(I just don't know if my pictures will be gone, phonebook, calendar affected???)

  • mari918 May 18, 2008

I was told by my boyfriend that this happened because of memory loss. I went out and bought a memory card and temporarily it gets better but at times it continues to delete my call log, sent and received emails and texts as well. I then decided to speak to a rep. and they had no solution for my problem. Out of anger I then took out the battery from my phone and it miraculously began working again. After doing this I received about 20 mesages that were just lingering around. So the best solution that I've found is remove and re-insert the bettery.

  • vanessah Jun 19, 2008

i also have had this phone for 2 weeks and my messages and call log has been deleted automatically. i did call att 3 different times and they concluded that it is due to low memory in blackberrys. i was instructed to go to internet globe icon, choose options, cache options and delete all. this clears up cookies and cache allowing more room.

  • Anonymous Mar 30, 2009

I have the same issue because i am not receiving text messages unless I decide to add them to the SIM card, and it isn't saving my sent messages or call log.

View free space by choosing OPTIONS - STATUS, & look at FILE FREE. On desktop, hold down ALT & press BACK/RETURN. A box shows all apps "running". (Red END button doesn't close the app -- sends to bkgnd.) Select one, and it opens... press MENU, scroll to CLOSE. This ends app/frees mem.

I work for AT&T and what i did was hold down alt. and type LGLG a event log will pop up which keeps a log of EVERYTHING you do. Clear it once in a while and it should help. since i started doing this on my BBcurve i havent had a problem with my call log. if I can help any other way feel free to email me @ mm367w@att.com no spam please

I spemt an hour on the phone with a Blackberry rep and the sloution was to remove the battery. I had 0 bytes of memory free and after replacing the battery, I had over 19 million. Just use your BB desktop backup frequently so you won"t lose too much data. Taught me a lesson.

People. Blackberry has a memory limit. Once u come close to that, it automatically erases bbm's and text messages and phone logs etc. You need to erase some stuff. Delete those programs u dont need and delete old ****!

I have had this issue recently as well. I first checked my memory and found there was sufficient memory left. I then removed my battery when the phone was turned on and replaced it. That has solved the problem and I wanted to thank the others on this post for the suggestion. You saved me an annoying call to the Telephone company!

Posted on Apr 27, 2010

This has happened to me periodically and removing the battery and ensuring sim card is securely in there has always worked, until this time. Then I discovered the massive number of pictures I apparently took the other evening (eek) and after deleting some we're back in business so definately a memory issue

No way out.....
i ******* hate this problem

Posted on May 19, 2008

I HATE This problem. I got this thing specifically because i wanted to save all of my text messages. I have over 54 million bytes free and it still happens. I get in so much trouble from friends because they think they're being ignored. I hope the blackberry 9000 fixes this or else I'm gonna have to get an iPhone.

Posted on May 07, 2008

I tried every single setting on the phone. It happened to me quite a few times for a few days each time. Kept crashing my phone too. I then took some advice I saw on another forum, and realised that what sorted out the problem was taking out and then replacing the battery! That's all you need to do. Take the battery out when the phone's on, then replace it. It boots up for about 3 minutes, and then calls & texts are logged from then on.

Hope this helped, it honestly worked for me.

White screen

This issue only occurs when trying to send a SMS text message from within the call details screen of a call in the call log.
To avoid this issue, complete the following steps to send a SMS text message from the call log screen:
  1. Open the Phone application.
  2. Open the Call Log by clicking the middle button in the toolbar.
  3. Touch the call log/contact in the list without clicking the screen.
  4. Display the menu, then select SMS Text (Name/Number).
  5. If required, rotate the BlackBerry smartphone to switch to landscape mode.

My blackberry pearl wont recieve text meassages from time to time

The rep is correct in trying to remove the battery. Check to see how much free space is left on the phone as well. On older blackberries the messages will if there is not enough room on phone. You can also look into upgrading the operating system on the phone.

No call log or text messages....

I know the pearl will clear your call log and sms histor when it has no free memory.. if you go to status screen ti will tell you you have plenty of memory available.. but what its not telling you is that you probably have about 1/4th of that "saved" for filed pics and what not.. you need to go into your settings and set the "savewd" memory to a smaller amount. This will resolve the issue if not you may need to reinstall your OS on the device. " I work for ATT mobility in tech support "

Internal Memory problems

hi,. it seems your phone has some prob with the internal functionality and memory, for which there's no optional setting. the only thing u need to do is just to walk in to an authorized motorola service center along with your warranty card and hope for the best. (in such situations, master reset should be done to your phone and only authorized centers can do that), regards, sheldon
