1. Unplug the power cord. 2. Clean the outer case with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and water. 3. If the document table glass gets dirty, clean it with a soft dry cloth. If the glass is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off all remaining liquid. 4. Ensure that there is no dust on the glass of the document table. Dust can cause white spots in your scanned images.
*** CAUTION: Do not press on the document table glass too hard.
5. Be careful not to scratch or damage the document table glass, and do not use a hard or abrasive brush to clean it. A damaged glass surface can decrease the scanning quality. 6. Never use alcohol, paint thinner or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case. 7. Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage the mechanism and circuitry. 8. Do not spray lubricants inside the scanner. 9. Never open the scanner case.
***NOTE: Wipe the inside of the document cover and the scanner's document table before scanning transparencies.
its possible that the driver for your older scanner is not compatible with vista this is often the case. the disc that came with your scanner will tell you this ie: for use with win 98, me, xp. if it doesnt say vista you will have to search internet for a vista driver or go to scanner make(ie: epson.logitek) internet site and see if there is a drver there. hope this helps
The 3170 has a screw in each of the two slots where the lid inserts into the scanner. Remove the lid, remove these screws, and then the top portion of the scanner with the glass slides forward and off. Mine was stiff getting it off, but with some slight twisting and a bit of force it came off. You can then clean the glass.
pls try to check your cable connection. test it with another device using the same usb interface, if it work with that, then there you can conclude if there is an issue with your scanner.
2nd check if you have properly installed it. unlpug and uninstall the scanner program then before plugging it black reinstall the scanner program. this usually clears out the conflict of plugging before installing the driver.
Disconnect and remove the lid. Remove the two screws on the back of the base. Then use a screwdriver or flat blade to slightly open the back seam. Beginning at the back, run a blade up inside the upper part of the side seam. You will need to release three catches on each side. Once the sides are loose, raise the back of the top, while pushing forward, and the two snap catches at the front will release. The top then lifts off and you can clean the glass. Reassemble in reverse order.
Hey! I've just find the solution. The only thing you need is a multi-screwdriver to take out the two screws sitted on the backside, then use a screwdriver with a plain point to separate the dark grey plastic piece from the light grey one (use a few toothpicks to keep every flap open). When you get all the flaps open just pull the light grey piece (the bottom one) and separate the dark one with the lid and the glass. Now you can clean conscientiounly the glass. Be sure to put in its right place the back little plastic piece that covers the power connector before closing your scanner when it's clean. Close it introducing the front side before and pressing over every flap. Work done! enjoy you Epson scanner!
I apologize for my english, maybe I've used any unconvenient word, but I think you'll understand it.
Unfortunately, cleaning dirt or debris from under the glass requires disassembly of the scanner and must be done by an Authorized Epson Servicer. Please refer to the Epson Customer Care Centers. if its still within the warranty period call epson.
