My Princeton model V1812 has an unlit screen. The power on light goes on and off at a regular rate, whether you push the button or not. I suspect a power supply problem. However, I cannot open the monitor up to view the inside. There are four screws, one at each corner, but the two halves will not separate even with all four screws removed. Does anyone have a tip for opening it up without damaging the case?

Same issue - Screen would not come on, electronics appears to work(green light on), top of the screen seem to have some yellow back light. Remove 4 screews, black cover does come off (watch that the black cord is not holding it on). You might remove the screws in the base (through oblong hole in base), then remove base 4 screws through mount - these don't appear to be holding anything but made it easier to remove black back (also note black back pulls away from silver front - not the other way around - pull from bottom center of black frame)

As to the real issue - screen does not come on. Nothing obvious to fix. I was hoping there was something obvious that could be exchanged to test out as I have 2 of these monitors with one still working. But allas we live in a throw-away society (and new 22" screens go for about $280 these days makes it hard to spend a lot of time salvaging something small with lower resolution. Good Luck!

Ok That fixed it! Bad power supply - I now have the other montior working. Just swapped the power supply (real easy - just 4 screws and the two easy clip connectors - one from the Power cord, the other to the main electronics / controller board)

Ok - Found the issue in the Power Supply - component I801 Bad Power Switcher (4 pin w/FET on the large heat sink above the large Capacitor on the board). The PN is a Fairchild 1M0565R which I purchased online at http://www.bluestar-online.com/1M0565R_p... for 4.99 each.

I had a similar issue after I pushed the brightness up, evidently too far - screen when blank and stayed blank - I had to lower the brightness "blind". so try this - turn off and on the monitor (reset) hit button 1 (far left button), a menu is displayed even if you can't see it. Hit button 4 (the right most in the group of 4) twice - selects brightness, hit button 2 a bunch of times to reduce brightness. Hit button 1 twice to exit (2 menus) power off and on and see if that helps.

The monitor shuts off. Turning the power off

the monitor is going into power saving mode ... it can happen if it is not receiving any signal from the pc ( pc is not running or booted properly, bad video cable connection monitor to pc) or the pc is itself in suspend/standby mode.

From what you say there is probably not much you can do with it, the parts inside are SMD, to small
to work on. If you could still see txt on the screen when you shine your torch, it could be fixed by
replacing the back lighting PCB.

Hope this helps
Have a nice day.

Monitor will not come on

Hi,

Most of the tiime if the monitor has a blinking green or amber light there is a problem with the signal going out to the computer. there are 2 ways how we can determine if the it is an issue with the monitor or the video card of the computer.

Since, we have a new monitor cord that could eliminate the possibility that your monitor cord causes the problem.

1. Try disconnecting your monitor from the computer and check for the green blinking light

2. Try connecting a different monitor to determine the issue.

Keep me posted.

I have same problem, believe it to be capacitors on the power supply have slowly leaked over the years (mine is Oct 2002).
Some may having bulging capacitors visible. Replacing the bad caps should resolve long start up time.

Looks like one of your backlights is bad, first indication is the red or pink tint, replacement of the lamp is fairly easy. If one lamp is bad the inverter will not work. You can get a replacement lamp from Mouser electronics for about $12
