Question about Gateway MX6421 Notebook

Notebook will not boot

The notebook will not boot.  I tried the recovery
disk but when attempting to boot from that, some files cannot be found
and the install hangs at 57% completed. When I try to format the drive,
the recovery partition cannot be created.
I can run a restore "R" or a format "F".  I first
tried just a restore and the process hung half way through.  I then
tried to format and the initial partition could not be created.
Trying to reformat from the recovery disc, it ran for about 1 hour then
couldn't find files on the cd, and the following error occurred:

Start error message:

Error message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

BAD_POOL_CALLER

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart
yiur computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

if problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. if
you need to use sale mode to remove or disable components, restart your
computer, press F8 to select advances startup options and then select

End of error message:

I don't have the option when I start the computer to "Boot to Command
Prompt".  I start it and get Boot Menu F10 or BIOS Settings F2.
Selecting F10 or doing nothing takes me to the system recovery and to
select "R". If I don't do anything then, it displays "Press F11 to start
recovery" then the message "NTLDR is missing" "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to
restart".

I replaced the disk drive with a new one and the same thing happens.

Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Doug My laptop will not boot. I get a Gateway screen that says BOOT Menu: BIOS settings: Press F2 for system utilities. When I press F10 for BOOT Menu it shows a screen that says System RAM Passed Extended RAM Passed Cache SRAM Passed System BIOS shadowed Video BIOS shadowed Press to enter SETUP. When I press F2 it says entering SETUP, But it freezes at that point. Any suggestions.

I tried to run the recovery disc, but it does nothing. The notebook still freezes at the same point. When I tried the disc in another PC it was able to read the disc.

I purchased a new RAM module and it started right up.

    Thanks for all your help

The recovery partion is hidden partiton you can not delete this partion. The only way to delete it to RUN FDISK command of the old DOS commad or Win 95.

Here is a link for you. Go there it will make bootable disk/CD for you.
Also download the FDISK.EXE from the same link and burn it together in the boot disc.

Then boot from the disc/CD. Run FDISK and delete all partions. And make new partitions of your choice.

Then reboot with your OS CD which you want to install. And install your OS.

Here is the link:

Thanks

Hello ,

Its ur cd-rom problem ... clean the lens using lens cleaner ... and try again ... there is no chances of hanging in between even wen the cd is clean!!!

Ok..with all due respect to the advice you are getting here..this is a clear example of a hard drive surface corruption issue. The hard drive is severely compromised, and as such, the system files are NOT being placed on their designated space on the drive.

You can do a data recovery on this disk

and then get a new hard drive and begin anew.

sorry to be the bearer of these tidings, but it's clear that this is the case.

You need to get a windows install disk

You definitively need to run Win setup on the computer again, but your recovery disk appears to be scratched or dirty.
If it is dirt, then wash it in cold water and rinse with dry soft cloth, then try installation again.
If it does not work you will need a windows setup cd.
In this case, you have a sticker with licence number at the back of your laptop. If you install same version of windows for which you have licence your windows will be genuine.
For example if you have licence for windows xp home, then you need Win XP home stup disk to use the valid licence number.
After setting up windows you will need to download and install some driver from factory website.

let me know if you have more questions

    regards

In windows the function key to enter safe mode or command prompt is F8, you can also try to start in safe mode and do a system restore to a date possibly older than when you started having troubles. If the system is in very bad shape system restore may not solve the problem or not even work.
In this case you need to reinstall internet. You will have following choices

1 Find a windows cd for your licence version as above. You can borrow it or download internet sharing programs. This are often pirates and are not authorised from Microsoft.

2 Buy a new windows setup CD and install it

3 Contact gateway and get replacement recovery disk. you may have to pay if your guarantee is expired.

4 Take the computer to a local service shop and have windows reinstalled using a valid licence number. It shouldn't be very expensive.

    regards

Did you use an alternative Windows setup disk apart your standard recovery disk?
If you did and you get same message with a different disk then probably you have an hardware issue. A faulty hardware device in your laptop does not allow windows setup to finalise installation.
Most common cause for this is faulty RAM, test it with a different module.

First ensure you tried at least two different disks

    regards

Hp pavilion dv7 notebook boot disk not found

First try a system restore/recovery. Scroll down to System recovery : http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SupportTaskIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3744231. If that fails, remove HDD and test, replace if necessary.

Hi,

I suggest try to remove the HDD or the storage device on your laptop and take it to any computer local center and have them back up your data thats the safest way for not losing your data because if you try to fix it and you accidentally reformat the HDD or storage device you'll lose all your data. The HDD is located at the bottom of the laptop, try to remove all of the cover. It looks like on the picture.

When i was partitioning my hard disk ,my battery has finished then when i have turn on my note book ,the machin wants the recovery disk but i had not this disk would you please help me ,thanks, ali

you will need the rescue disc that you should have created BEFORE you attempted to partition also partitioning a hard drive whilst on battery power alone was a very foolish thing to do. install the partition software you used on another pc and create a recovery disc with it. Then put that into the laptop and boot from it, hopefully it will attempt to recover the lost partitions, but dont be too hopeful of it actually doing it

My m250 netbook won't boot up syas missing boot file

Dear Friend
Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM. First verify that no floppy diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette.
If not then it seems that your windows boot file got corrupted. all you have to do is try using your notebooks recovery CD if you dont have a recovery CD then you have to use the windows installer CD
1 Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
2 When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3 Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4 Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
5 You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
6 Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer.
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

7 Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

Thanks

Hi! My IBM R52 Notebook has gotten pretty slow. What shall do to get it quicker again and how can I formate the notebook! thanks for your valuabl advise in advance, rp

Try cleaning up your unused programs and files using disk cleanup and defragment your drive using disk defragmenter.
To formaer your drive and reinstall the OS, run the computers recovery wizard, or insert the recovery disk that came with your computer.
If you do not ahve a recovery disk or recovery program, use a windows installation disk like windows vista, windows XP DVD to format and reinstall the OS.
Make sure to backup the stuff you want before attempting this!

Can't extract files on System Recovery Disc 4 for Compaq Presario model 6350US

At this point, you can try to clean your disk # 4 and see what happen,
or try to make a copy of disk # 4 (if you can copy the disk) and try again.

or

1) Contact your customer support and ask for a new set of disks.(or only # 4)

or

2) Boot your computer with another OS disk (win XP)

or

3) Boot your computer with some utility disk

It could be a hard drive crash. Can you refort the hard drive and see if you get any errors.

Check to see if you have any scratched on the CD.
