Fridge is getting hot in between the doors

I just realize that right in between the two vertical doors (left side is the freezer, other side is the fridge) on the fridge side, all along from top to botton is hot, you can feel it touching wih your hand, what is it causing this? Is it dangerous?

I have the same model #HSS251FMC WW side by side that we purchased about 6years ago. Never really noticed the mullion strip getting too hot up unitl recently (last month) then the center strip and left side (freezer side) also was getting warm. Pulled the cover from the back and vacuumed out not really much help...noticed heat above the fan and below circuit board. Fridge still cools and and freezes...hope it stays that way.

The center post gets hot because there is not enough air going across the condenser coils. Thy cleaning the coils. The other problem could be the condenser fan stopped or slowing down. Although some units have the electrical heater called the mullion heater, it usually will not get to hot. There is a yoder loop in most models today that is tied in with the sealed system. When the fan stops or the coils are blocked it will get very warm.

This is called a mullion heater and is perfectly normal as this heater prevents the area between the doors from freezing. No danger at all.

where is the ice,is it on the food and shelves or is it on the back inside wall of the freezer?if it's on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, timer or board depending on your model number,if it's on the shelves, door and food packages warm air is getting into the freezer somehow either from the door not closing or the door was left open, could have a bad gasket on the door, the ice chute door could be broke and not closing.let me know what you find and the picture shows a side by side but i'll need the model number too,if it's a side by side or freezer on the bottom the model number should be in the fridge section,on the right hand wall up near the ceiling,if the freezer is on top the number should be on the left side wall in the fridge section up near the ceiling.but with this hot wheather we're having if the door was left open this will happen, you can shut down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and melt the ice with a hair dryer, don't do this with the machine running because the hot air will cause the same problem, after the ice is melted you can put the food back in and restart it.

The middle part of the fridge frame where the side by side doors close onto is very hot to the touch. The fridge and the freezer portion themselves are working properly, but I just leaned on the frame in...

I had the same problem. I had just brush cleaned my coils and then it began. When I took the back off the fridge, I saw the fan was not spinning. I unplugged the fridge and then tried to spin the fan blades. I had inadvertantly bent a blade so it would not spin. I bent the blade back into shape and turned it on. The fan worked and very quickly the middle was no longer hot.

Hi Mr Hodjati,

No this is not normal. You have a failure of air flow in your condenser. I will explain how to repair if you wish to make the repair youself. If this is not addressed you will soon realize a reduction in cooling and a higher use of energy.

There is a fan that pulls air in from the lower right side front of the refrigerator grille located below the fresh food door, and exhausts the air on the left side of this same grille. Remove this grill and clean the coils with a vacume cleaner and a brush. Pull the refrigerator out so you can get behind the unit. Unplug the power cord from the wall. Next remove the screws from the panel behind the refrigerator near the bottom, the panel may look like a piece of cardboard, but it is a critical component. Once this panel is removed you will see the fan motor and fan blade, make sure nothing like a food wrapper or animal is stuck in the fan causing it to be stuck. If it turns free by hand (it will be real hot down there so be careful), then the motor needs replaced. If you send me the model number I can find you the replacement part number. Let me know if this helps.

Overheating, seals on Roper side by side are hot to the touch

Hi, When that strip gets hot, it is a sign the temperatures are not cold enough. Put a thermomitor in the freezer. You should get a reading of 0 to 5 above. If not, let me know and we can try and get you through this.

Thanks
Vic
