Question about Kenmore 632 sq. in. 16324

1 Answer

Burner Adjustment. I just replaced a gas manifold and the grill seems to work o.k.; however, there are some yellow flames (rather than blue) flaming up on some of the burners. There is an adjustable "air gap" where the gas valve enters the burner tube. What is the appropriate "gap" setting for this part ? or is this not causing the problem ? Any help will be appreciated !

    Hi,

How do you actually replace the gas manifold? I have a Kenmore 4 burner gas grill. Is there a website/owners manula that shows how to do this?

    Thanks

You may be running lean. Add air until you have as much blue flame as you can get. Often, however, this is impossible on worn burners.

Left burner produces a normal blue flame, but the right burner produces a big yellow flame - how can I fix this?

Hi inomura...
Look at the left burner, pipe, air hole adjustment, etc because it is operating good.
You will see a difference to it compared to the on the right.
The right pipe, air hole, or the length the pipe that are iserted in the gas control valve is different from the left.
The yellow flame indicates that not enough air is getting to the flame getting to the right flame ignition point.
The left flame is nice and blue...normal, the right is yellow indicating that not enough air is getting to the flame ignition point...look to see if the air hole adjustment is different than the one on the left...there is something open more or less, improperly adjusted.
Once you have it adjusted properly the right flame will burn bright blue just as it does on the left.

Flame does not burn blue -- it is more yellow and sooty

From what you described, the burner needs to be removed and cleaned and the air shutter adjustment needs to be readjusted. After cleaning and replacing the burner, you can light the unit and then start adjusting the air shutter, until the flames are blue with yellow or orange tips.

Hope this helped you.

Bob, your wife is partially correct. However, both burners should have blue flames with orange tips. Cleaning the burners and the their venturi valves, should solve the problem. When I say cleaning them, I mean removing and cleaning them.

Why can't I get rid of the yellow flame in my gas grill? I've replaced every component - propane tank, valve, venturi tube, burner, regulator etc. Still...the flame burns yellow and creates soot.

Hi,
You have the wrong orfices in the gas manifold...they are too big and they are allowing too much gas out...if you are running LP gas and you have natural gas orfices it will do that...that is what I think your problem is...

Try using compressed air to blow out the burner and make sure the gas is turned off when you do it.

Tried to use my turkey fryer and could only get a yellow flame. Never had a problem getting that nice blue flame before. Do I have a reg problem or a burner prob??

Check your propane tank first; is it getting close to being empty? Check where the hose connects to the burner, there should be an air adjustment there; it looks like a rotating disc with two big holes on either side, this is turned when the burner is lit to adjust the amount of air mixing with the gas. If it's all the way open, you have a yellow flame, if it's closed all the way you have a blue (but weak) flame. Try adjusting that and if that doesn't work, try a different regulator...it is rare a regulator could cause this but it could cause it; just use that as your last resort.

When ever we get a full 20 lb. tank of lp gas, our 3 burner weber grill has a very low flame and it goes out frequently with low heat until it runs for a long time, then it runs normal.

Hello.
It sounds like your regulator is not quite right. Try a different one, or just replace yours. New regulators are inexpensive, and are available at Lowe's/Ace/Similar.
Best regards (and happy grillin'), --W/D--

Yellow flame on the rear of my burner

Yellow is a "reducing" flame meaning low oxygen, whereas blue is an oxidizing flame. There is not enough air mixing with the gas. Clean out the pipes and free the air intake holes on the first stage of the burner assembly.
