You can change that. It is designed to alart you during a power outtage. That way you will have time to shut down your servers. It will alway alarm during a power outage. But check to make sure your batteries are in good condition

Uninterruptible Power Supply problems. My uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is not backing up during a utility power outage.


First, we do need to full charge it. Then see what's being able to pick up a load of this Ups power or not? If not then it means something is wrong with this Ups. Please put this change.

My ups is switching off itself immediately the mains goes off.the battery is okay with 13v.


Batteries in the UPS typically last 3 to 5 years and it depends upon several factors. including the number of times the unit must go on battery power and enviromental conditions. There are usually several batteries in the UPS and while the battery voltage may show 13 volts, this may only a float voltage and a true indication of the battery voltage needs the batteries to be tested under a load. there maybe one battery that is faulty and causing the whole battery system to fail.
These lower powered and cheaper KVA type UPS are switch over types (when the mains fail, the UPS switches over to the inverter in milli-seconds to supply mains power). It is a possibility the inverter circuit is faulty and when the mains power fails the inverter does not switch over.

The true UPS type are usually the higher KVA units (over 1500 KVA units) that converts mains power continuously via the inverter circuit. The mains power charges the batteries and the inverter drawing power from continuously from the batteries (therefore there is no switch over time lag from the mains to the battery.

What problems do these technologies solve in UPS?


1. Provide conditioned clean AC power to computers & other peripherals (except laser printers, which should not be powered by UPS).
2. Protect equipment from the harmful effects of brownouts & sags.
3. Supply power to equipment during a power outage for a specific time, either to allow for the graceful shut down of systems, or to keep the systems working during the power outage (depending on the battery capacity).

Computer resets with Power cuts not always although UPS supplied


ups may not be true on line, type so sometimes when power outage happens there can be a very small break in supply. this can cause load items to shut down
get good quality on line ups.

Ups troubles


What is happening here is you are transferring load to battery during a power outage but on return of Line Power the UPS is not smoothly transferring back to Normal mode. As a result you are basically turning off your computer. Two options... shut down your computer orderly during an outage or buy a new UPS.

Not working


Some UPS have "Battery backup" and "Surge only" outlets. I don't know if it is the case for your model. The "Surge only" outlets are not connected to the battery and will go off during a power outage. Make sure that the equipement that need to keep running during the outage are connected to the "Battery backup".

Important: Never connect a laser printer to the "Battery backup" outlets because to power draw is just too high.

Have you made sure that the battery is connected inside the UPS? (If the battery is user-replacable)

You may do a simple experiment. Connect you UPS you a wall outlet and plug a conventionnal lamp to a battery backup outlet. Then, unplug the UPS from the wall. If the light goes off, then you may have a problem with your UPS.

Hi,

All UPS uses some sort of battery to power the unit in the event of a power outage. Like car batteries they also have a life span which can be a couple of months to a year or so. If the UPS has been in service for some time, perhaps it simply needs a replacement battery. On the other hand, if the unit is fairly new and carries warranty, it may be to your advantage to consult your dealer and claim for a replacement.

Hello,

My name is Vikram Kumar Thumu, from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue related to Shutdown of UPS whenever there is a Power Surge. I would like to provide my suggestions on the issue. I hope that this should work for you and will resolve the issue.


I see that you are using


Generally, the issue happens if you are not using the UPS as per Manufacturer specifications or if it is overloaded frequently then UPS  shutdowns


To isolate the issue, I recommend you to check and go through below information.

If you see ON BATTERY a Yellow LED OR Flashing Yellow
LED with Audible Alarm (Beeping) then it means this condition for the On-Battery LED can indicate 1of 2 problems: They are:

1. The UPS is on battery backup and an intermittent audible alarm is on. The UPS will begin shutdown procedure.

2. Battery is low. The UPS will sta rt shut down. The buzzer sounds an audible alarm .


if you see a Solid Red on your UPS , then it means that UPS is either fault or overload.  It happens if there is a issue with UPS. The LED will be lit continuously and the unit will sound an audiable alarm for 10 seconds. Other cause could be with Battery is weak or Bad, the Battery needs to be replaced under this condition.

If you use a Flashing Red LED, then it means that battery is trying to give more power than it should. It happens then UPS is overloaded.

Let me tell you,,,,

Only data sensitive equipment such as a computer, monitor and external drive should be plugged into these outlets. Battery power is automatically

provided in case of a power outage. Power (AC or battery) is not supplied to these outlets when the UPS is switched off. (Do not plug surge protectors or power strips into the battery back up outlets).

 Most Important factor that effects the issue is that,
 

Caution: Never connect a laser printer or scanner to the backup outlets of UPS with other computer equipment. A laser printer or scanner draws significantly more power when in use than when idle. This may overload the UPS.


And caused the UPS to shutdown whenever there is Power Surge

To isolate the issue further, let me tell you the way where you can test the UPS if it is fine or not.

1. Charge the UPS for around 4 hours, and try below steps.

  

To Conduct a Self Test

 

Use the self-test to verify both the operation of the UPS and the condition of the battery. In normal utility power, push the On/Off/Test

button less than 2 seconds and the UPS performs a self-test function. During the self-test, the UPS operates in back-up mode.

Note! During the self-test, the UPS briefly operates on- battery backup power (the on-battery LED comes on). If the UPS passes

the self -test, it returns to on-line operation. If the UPS fails the self-test, it immediately returns to on-line operation and lights the replace battery LED. The loads are not affected. Recharge the battery overnight and perform the self- test again. If the replace battery LED is still on, the battery will need to replaced.

 

This should resolve the issue for you.
