I think I have the same problem. Green light goes on and the IBM logo just flashes on the screen before going black again. I switch the display on and off many many times until finally (perhaps 30 min or more later) the image is fixed on the screen.

Hi you can inspect that what's wrong with your monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

What is the usual cost to have this problem fixed. I'm afraid to go inside and try to fix anything. I'd written earlier but did so before finding these other questions and answers. Are these kinds of repairs more costly than replacing the monitor? Thanks again!

I had a similar problem, IBM thinkvision L170 lcd screen, turns off about 2 seconds after turning on. Just enough time to flash the IBM logo and then turn off.
I pulled it apart and found that one of the main power supply electrolytic cap's, 1000uf 16V, was swollen. I replaced it with a 1000uf 25V cap and all is fine again.

First place to chaeck will be power supply, the problem can also be caused by bad inverter circuits, bad lamps, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps, lamps, http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

IBM ThinkVision 17" L170P, the problem is that the screen is black and power indicator is steady green on. Can not turn off the power indicator at all.

Check the DVI connections on your computer and your monitor. It is possible that there is not a good connection. Do you have access to another working monitor? If you connect a different monitor, and that monitor comes up, it could be the DVI cable or a bad monitor itself. If neither monitor comes up it could be a bad video card or port, or the computer may not recgonize it under Properties, Display, then settings when you right-click on the monitor, if you are using it as a second monitor.

IBM ThinkVision 17" Monitor displays for 1 second then black

This seems to be a common problem with these monitors. Have a look very closely and see if you can still see something there. From there, either send it to get repaired, or, if you are handy with a soldering iron, open it up and replace the 4 main capacitors (at least one of them will be "popped", but it is handy to replace them all.

In order to open the monitor, you will need to remove the stand, and make sure you get all of the screws out before attacking it with a screwdriver.
I have 5 IBM monitors at work with the same problem, and opening them up has shown the popped capacitors.
Again, only recommended if you know what you are doing. Screwing it up will leave you with nothing.

LCD (IBM) monitor power light is green but no display

Make sure the monitor lead which goes behind the computer is in correctly and has not come loose.

Unscrew it from the PC and put it back in again.
