Quit printing black

My hp c5180 quit printing in black. I have a bulk ink system and when you clean the print heads you can see the ink flow back and forth in the tubes. No ink flows in the black tube. It also says there is no black ink in the cartidge when there is. I put a new hp black cartridge in and still no luck.Any ideas????

I have an HPC5180 printer also. I had a paper jam last week, cleaned out the paper like I have done before and now my printer will not print black ink at all. I went down adn purchased new cartridges for the printer, still wont print. I reset the printer and it did not fix the problem either. I was online with HP support, who could not speak English, and they had me do OVER everything I had previously done and said they can not help. If you have any suggestions, it would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I suggest you first verify the permanent built-in PRINTHEAD performance inside this legacy printer model (either one of the procedures below applies to all printers which use HP02 or HP363 ink cartridges): For additional HP02 support information, please visit our HP02 system support page which includes videos of everything mentioned below: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1372
A. HP02 ink-series printers with KEYPAD (i.e. keypad numbers 1-9)
Tap 43 PRINTHEAD Health Diagnostics:
Video Procedure: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2391
1. Press * and # keys simultaneously.
2. "Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed.
3. Press 123 to display the 'Support/Service' menu.
4. At 'Support/Service' menu, click the Right Arrow 3 times until Special Reports menu is displayed.
5. Select Ok, then click Right Arrow 2 times until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
6. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 43' is displayed. Use the Left Arrow if you need to decrease numerical count.
7. Select Ok. The test page prints.
8. Check the 4th line at the top of the printed report; an electrically good/stable PRINTHEAD 'Pen Status' will state "Pen Status: Pen OK".........if any other message is displayed then the PRINTHEAD may have failed and may need to be replaced (if part is still available). It is suggested to perform the 'Printer Reset' procedure below to first rule out printer firmware related problem.
B. HP02 ink-series printer models that DO NOT HAVE a KEYPAD:
Internal Test Print:
1. Press the Menu button, press the Right Arrow button to select 'Tools', and then press 'OK'.
2. Press the Right Arrow button several times to select 'Print Test Page', and then press 'OK'. The test page prints.
Tap 43 PRINTHEAD Health Diagnostics - See Video Procedure: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2377
1. Turn ON the printer.
2. Press and Hold the "Print Photos" & "Red Eye Removal" buttons.
3. Release both buttons.
4. You will see a new screen that says, "Enter Special Key Combo"... The Key combo is: press and release in sequence the "Red Eye Removal", "Print Photos", and then "Red Eye Removal"
5. Scroll through the menu by pressing the right arrow button until the display says 'Special Reports'.
6. Select Ok, then press the arrow button until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
7. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 43' is displayed.
8. Select Ok. The test page prints.
9. Check the 4th line at the top of the printed report; an electrically good/stable PRINTHEAD 'Pen Status' will state "Pen Status: Pen OK".........if any other message is displayed then the PRINTHEAD may have failed (unfortunately the PRINTHEAD is not replaceable). It is suggested to perform the 'Printer Reset' procedure below to first rule out printer firmware related problem.

I have a hp 6500 officejet wireless printer that i jut put in new ink cartridge and all it does is print blank pages?

This happens as the ink needs some time to saturate the system. Usually one needs to print quite a few pages for the ink to flow through and get to the ink head. A better quicker way is to clean the ink heads with the aid of the software that came with your printer.

Navigate to your windows control panel and double click printers and faxes. Then right click on your HP Officejet 6500 printer and select properties. Then click the Print test page button. Check the manual for cleaning the ink head.

Take care!

My printer is printing but the black ink is very faint. I get a message ink system failure

You could clean the black ink cartridge. For this you need to remove the black ink cartridge which is present in the printer. In order to clean the laser or scanner block you could use a cotton swab as it would fully clean the dirt. You need to clean the grime and the dried ink present in the printer. This would remove all the hindrances which prevent the ink from flowing. Cleaning the printer heads would also help to solve the problem.

My 5180 will not print black. it has a new cartrigde

Your print head is separated from your cartridge. I think that your print head is clogged, and that is why you can't print even with a new cartridge. The cartridge in your case is just a tank with ink, the print head is inside the printer.

You can do a software cleaning to unclog the print head.
  1. Click "Start", then "All Programs", then click on HP and then click on "HP Solution Center"
  2. Click on "Settings"
  3. Click on "Print Settings"
  4. Click "Printer Toolbox"
On the "Device Services" tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges and then follow the onscreen instructions. There are three levels of cleaning available, depending on how long you haven't print.

When the printer is done, it should print a test page. If everything seems ok, just print. If not, you will need to repeat the procedure.
You should also know that software cleaning uses a lot of ink.

Hope that will help solve your problem!

Ink system has failed. Unable to print. Error: Oxcc 18a 0201

See if you can install your printer on another computer and then try printing with it again.
Run a test print first to be sure and check your print out. If this fails,
Run a print head cleaning using the printer utility setting. If it does not work,
Get another Black ink and try it out again. Cheers!

Black ink not working on HP C5180 Photosmart

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the printer, and replugging it after one minute has passed. If that does not work, then rerun the CD used to install the printer. Both techniques reprogram the electronics, to a certain extent.
You can also visit the HP website, to see what solutions are being offered for various printer problems. They probably have a number to call, in case you need to talk to a technician.
Hope these suggestions help you out.
