Question about Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX Personal Web Camera

1 Answer

No video Quickcam less than a week old. Installed properly, can see in devices under hardware. Can see myself, but when I invite the other person to view my webcam they don't see anything. Also when I speak they cannot hear me. Any clues ? I feel it's not transmitting or broadcasting, maybe there's a software/system option that I have to tick. Don't have anybody online to test right now. Thanks

What program are you using to send your video? MSN, AIM, YAhoo??? I've seen this happen under the multi-client program called Trillian and ***** was able to fix it.... try a different client with whoever your chatting with and you may be able to work through it... I am new at using Skype. I have had a logitrech Communicate stx Web Cam installed. I notice there appears to be what one would think are microphone holes at the base of the lens as well as the writing...

You are correct.
For Logitech to work with Skype you need to install the Logitech driver for your model WEBcab. Then you need to configure Skype to use the Logitech WEBcam and microphone.

To test if the Logitech QuickCam is functioning, check the USB cable; make sure it is connected properly. Then click on Start - All Program - Logitech - Logitech QuickCam and see if you can get the camera to capture your image/video.
If this works then configure Skype. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the Logitech QuickCam
Also check the Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.
Avoid connecting the WEBcam to an USB hub, connect it directly to the computer's USB port.

Can see and hear other person but can't hear myself or see myself and the other person can't see me

Does the webcam work locally at all?
If not, you might need to install the webcam driver first.
Once the webcam shows up as working in the Device Manager (under imaging devices), you can configure it as the video input source in the chat program.

I am trying to use this product with Skype. I can see myself, but the person on the other end of my call just sees a solid light green screen.

Have you set it up properly

Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on
Audio Settings
and set the Microphone and Speakers
to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera if installed properly
will come up and show a picture.
Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

Others can view myself very clearly, i cannot view myself clearly

Tell them to check this
Normal 0 How much memory is installed in your computer? The camera uses quite a bit of your memory to operate properly and would cause the poor video. Could be other
Issues, but worth checking.
Hope this helps. Bud

Video- I see myself instead of the other person.

Try this and send this on to the other person.

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud
