This is the way how to check what's wrong with your monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

There is no video output from your computer, that is why the monitor goes to sleep, check the cable and the video card.

EMACHINE HAVE AN UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME. HOW CAN I FIX THIS PROBLEM?

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html)

Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, itll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.

If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

You could also try a Live Linux like Knoppix Live from here:- http://www.knoppix.net/get.php,
download the Free ISO using a Torrent, burn it to a CD then run that it will load into Ram and then ith all the software in the CD you can examine the hard drive

hope this helps

My HP W1907 monitor works fine until I try to play The Sims 3 game. I play for several minutes or hours and the monitor shows the message that it is going to sleep and the light on the monitor goes...

Hi there. I had the same problem months ago when I try to play high end games like Sims 3 my monitor goes into power saving mode. I tried to check every possible causes of the problem. It could be that your computer is overheating try to clean your computer and check if your fans still works. Second it could me your power supply malfunctioning, maybe it does not meet the required power to make your game work. Last cause is your video card malfunctioning, what I did is to just buy a new video card and it works.
If you do not have spare power supply or video card you can go to a computer repair shop for them to check the possible problem that causes it to go into power saving mode. It can also save you money before you can buy a new one.
Hope this helps, Have a good day!

With the computer you wrote to this forum on:

1. Download Knoppix
a. KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it (over 8GB on the DVD "Maxi" edition).
b. http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/download.php?lang=en&link=ftp://mirror.netcologne.de/knoppix
i. Click on agree
ii. Click on knoppix cd
iii. Then click on KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-DE.iso
iv. Save
2. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ss/writeisofecddvd.htm <-- is a step by step instruction on how to burn an ISO file.
3. NOW – that you have this CD, start the problem computer up with the CD.
What this does is boot up to the CD as an linux operating system, allowing you to copy all your files to a flash drive or another hard drive.

Then reload your windows operating system.

My monitor goes to sleep mode at startup & can't access safe mode

Turn the computer off, open the case and remove the RAM. Does the computer beep when you turn it on with no RAM? If not, your motherboard is dead.

If your computer beeps, turn it off again and try putting one stick of RAM in. If the computer doesn't turn on normally, try the other stick of RAM.

Also, try taking out the video card and putting it back in.

Good luck,
Jason

Hi!!!!! I hav installed UNIX os in 1 drive..... Now the other three drives showing some problem .... So with out any harm of data to unix drive.....i can re-installation for the other three or not

I would suggest using a "Live" Unix system disk to fix the file system problem. Sometimes file system locking by the host operating system will cause problems accessing secondary HDDs. Try the free Knoppix system (www.knopper.net), this system works from a CD so that you have complete access to all of your drives. Use this to move/copy/save data so that the drives with problems can be formatted/reallocated.

Emachine sleep mode

Try going into your cmos settings at system boot (usually hitting delete or F keys, funtion keys as your computer first turns on). Check to to see the boot sequence and look for sleep mode settings. If there isnt an option there, boot your system in safe mode and check through your windows settings for sleep mode settings.

Monitor doesn't work

Sounds like a bad video adapter. I'm assuming your emachines has an integrated video adapter. Put in a video card (with the power plug pulled out! Touch the bare metal frame of the computer with your hand before inserting the video card into the agp or pci slot Don't touch the motherboard). If you get video, you may or may not need to install drivers after that. XP has a lot of video drivers, but lacks quite a few of them, too.
